As others have stated, HAM is definitely a great option. I have both. I have my tech license, and have looked at upgrading, but I think I will stick to 2m/ 70 cm for now. It really depends on what part of the country you are in as to what bands are active. I have a midland CB and 2 Icom radios...

Everything was manufactured locally near them in Ohio. He had one fabricator that did all the welding etc. Attention to detail is outstanding.
