Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
Hi Eric
Had to pass on what an epic adventure you and your young family have been passing along here for all to follow and be inspired by.
Although it amazes me that a simple roofrack install will get far more likes and comments than the amazing glimpse you convey with your videos...completely...
Here is a rack concept that has worked well for us...bouncing over some pretty rough terrain.
The ladders come down to the body combing and supports the aft end of the rack...and the bulk of our weight while in the tent. The front of the rack is captured on the gutter...but I have dispersed...
Very interesting...although I am surprised to learn it will deter a bear. I see you're on the island and I know the high population of black bear there...so your review should be highly regarded.
With social media and what I’ve seen on it I must say I give the buggers way more respect. Although...
My dad always told me to keep a big bear spear and a bucket of rocks near by...years later I always thought it was good advice. Especially growing up in British Columbia
Now that would be funny eh...but sorry to disappoint just another human bushwhacker.
Anyways...I'm gonna come clean here. We did see an ape (no tail) walking upright across the rocks at this camp. Both me and the miss'...definitely a jaw dropper. We've seen monkeys over here but that's in the...
OK...not the type of guy to let my imagination get the better of me but this certainly had me scratchin' my head.
We were in this camp for 7-8 days...foothills of the Eastern step to the Tibetan Plateau. Quite a magical secluded spot. Guess you could say Yeti country...haha
Anyways...we were...
Hey thanks
The setup has worked quite well. Nice to have the option to haul the battery box and fridge outside and just run off of the 2 x 100w panels...ensuring they're in the sunshine as much as possible.
hey Outdoor Dog...Can't you see the photos I sent with my original post above?
Passing on a photo of my homemade battery box...includes a 100ah Lithium battery and mttp charge controller.
Also...because my panels are not symmetrical I need to wire in combination (parallel and series) to...
I see more AlpiCool fridges these days...I have the same but 30L. It's been good so far.. 2 x 5 month and 1 x 2 month full time tours.
Our 300 watts worth of panels just squeak us by during cloudy/rainy periods...and that's with modest electrical requirements other than our fridge.
Our 2 x 50w...
Yuppers....almost identical as which came first..."the chicken or the egg". As a youngster I thought we camped because we fished...but slowly my camping has become far more complexed....and do I dare say "more comfortable". The terrain changed as my vehicles became more capable. Now camping has...
I've been running 2 flexible 50 watt panels mounted to the removable fwd roof sections. Used 3M two sided foam tape to install...going on 3 yrs now without incident. A simple plug and play setup which allows for additional "loose" panels or the removal of the actual roof sections. The 2 x 100...
Wow...this post has definitely hit a nerve and keeps on giving. Has been some excellent emotional testimonials here which has been a pleasure to read. Gotta love the passion...that's why chillin' in the woods will never die.
Just my under valued two sense worth ;-)
Yes Mr. Dobbs...I seldom see any reference to GVW. Every time we hit a toll road our weight is displayed...very helpful. Just completed a 5 month adventure with 3 months at high altitude. Vehicle was struggling at times fully loaded...thinkin' it's time for something bigger.
Totally agree...3/4" is wayyyy too thick. Even for 6' slides...although drawers could use a couple of 1/4" dividers to keep the sides parallel. And why not consider the availability of a good marine grade plywood. Usually has more veneers per thickness and just looks better once you get some...
We are 225lbs. over our GVW with a full tank of gas...and that's with no water and using plastic boxes to organize our gear for long term travel. Additional weight is not an option.
Seems Grubworm has sent us a pretty sweet setup...although drawer height has been sacrificed in lieu of mattress...
That's frickin' awesome Grubworm!!!
back to topic...
You get what you pay for as with any product. The collective resource that's out there has given us some massive improvements to help us conquer the outdoors. And besides, there will always be that nich market for those that can afford the...
