Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.

I was really feelin' it for you guys when it looked like you were gonna have to double back to the Chile side. I actually said, "Oh, no!" out loud, LOL. I'm glad it worked out so that didn't have to happen.
Even though I RSVP'd as a Maybe, it's really more like Probably. The only things that would prevent me from coming are work related, which I won't know for sure until closer to the date. I'll be there rather more likely than not, though.
I bought this one. It came with easy to understand instructions. I'd never done it myself before, but discovered it was quite easy. Only took a few minutes.
Good thread idea. Lots of covered bridges in Oregon, as you well know. Looking back through my photos, I was surprised to discover I've only ever taken a picture of one. I shall have to remedy that.
@OregonTrail4runner , how long does it take to cool down enough to pack it away? Unless we're staying multiple days in the same spot, we usually roll out right after breakfast. Typically, I'm breaking camp while The Wifey is cooking.
Terrain dictates. It depends on the type of trip you're taking, and as Robert said above, what your goals are.
If you're doing something like Backcountry Discovery Routes, you'll likely be spending more hours behind the wheel, though probably not as much distance. You'll still want to plan...
I'm new to astrophotography, and would definitely be up for a meet. Here are a couple of my better shots. Not great (exposure time was a bit too long), but not horrible either.
Not currently, but when I was a scout, I spent some quality time overlanding in HMMWVs. One of the things that drew me to overlanding was how much some of the skills I acquired as a scout translated to this.
