Due to the emissions equipment on modern diesels, I would be hesitant to take a modern diesel on your trip. A pre emissions diesel could be made to be very dependable, if you are willing to pick up something a bit older and go through everything. If you are looking for something turn key...
Put it all together and do some reception tests. The lights shouldn't make any "noticeable" reduction in transmission performance. Once you figure out if you are having reception interference we can go from there. There are ways to address these things.
I did the spring over conversion on my rear axle, which consisted of cutting off sway bar mounts, spring perch's, and shock mounts. I welded on new perch's with a better pinion angle and new shock mounts.

1) Helper springs. Yes. Increase your spring rate when suspension is compressed.
2) Timbren bump stops. Why. Your factory stops work fine. Longer stops will only cause a bottoming sooner and shorter may cause damage.
3) AAL. Same as helpers but will affect full travel instead of just when...

D-Rings. Tighten them down with a pry bar that has an alignment tip. Makes them impossible to get off without tools. I've had a D ring tow receiver point for years that hasn't ....... found a new home...
