Guest, we will be conducting site maintenance this week and some downtime is expected. At this time Rally Point and the Member Map will also become an app-only feature for long-term security and stability. A few days after this maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
Well we're a couple of days into our big trip and everything is going great! The little Datsun is loving the open road and all the mods are working a treat. The roof rack is a bit noisy (clunky on bumps) so I'll take a look at that over the coming days
Ended up setting up out at my girlfriends place. It gets super cold out here so it will test the RTT tonight.
A greater detail of my pack. I've added a small shelf above the fridge to store a wolf pack for dry food. All the food is then in the one place. A 20/25l water can will fit on the far...
Awesome! Hope you'd reply Luis!
I'll be picking my sister in law up at the Brisbane airport (5th July) and cruising through to Maleny for a wedding, if the timing works out that'd be great!
Also spending the weekend (8/9 July) on Fraser if interested too
Hey Ozzie 'bounders!
On the first of July I'm headed to the Cape!
It'll take me six weeks and I'd love to meet a couple of you on the way!
My trip outline is here (https://www.overlandbound.com/forums/threads/the-ultimate-7000mi-australian-pilgrimage-cape-york.7649/) let me know if you're in...
Hey overlanders!
On the first of July my girlfriend and I are embarking on the trip of a lifetime. We will be spending six weeks on the road and covering approximately 11000km (7000miles)
We are taking my trusty Nissan...
So I had some 1.5mm polished stainless sheet left over from my DIY kitchen (https://www.overlandbound.com/forums/threads/diy-portable-camp-kitchen.4856/page-2#post-113352) and decided to mount a piece on my tailgate...Not only super bling but gives a nice flat food prep/cooking surface!
All finished! Stainless is on. I was going to screw it down too but it seems to have stuck well with araldite. I've also picked up a snow peak stainless cooking set and kettle. I will give it a test in the next fortnight.
.
Will let you all know how it went on my big trip too. Cheers
I'd like to get away for a weekend to try it for sure. We've tested the rooftop tent and kitchen previously. My main concern is fitting everything in neatly and easy to access. I have been test packing certain aspects to make sure I'm sorted. Six weeks is a long time away but there are sections...
More bits bolted to the mighty Datsun I'm kitting out the roof rack for the vehicle spares and recovery gear (the back seats and the ute tub are for us!) Hopefully these items won't see much use so they're up and out of the way. HiLift jack mount, shovel holder, 4 maxtrax mounted. I bolted down...
It's been a while so I thought I'd better post an update!
The folding leg idea didn't work as well in real life as it did in my head. So I made a frame with fixed legs (adjustable for height) that fits neatly over the kitchen when in transit. This means I can store light items on top of the...
A busy week was had on the Nissan. Dual battery system is all wired up. I'm really glad I did it myself. I now know how it all works and can fix any faults on the trail. The entire system fits into otherwise wasted space (to the left of the fridge)
I also managed to fit a Rhino pioneer cab rack...
Well it has been a while since I've had a chance to work on the datto. Two sets of registrations and insurances have eaten into the money for mods!
There's some empty space that needs filling!
I have just fit up some "cheap insurance" modifications to look after the engine while on my...
I don't, as it is light enough to pull out and set up easily. I have the cutlery drawer end facing out so quick roadside stops for lunch or coffee is easy enough with it still in the car. Hope that makes sense
I've given it a full coat of varnish (which took forever!) And added the flip open table. Used a piano hinge and triangular rest. Only stainless top and leg setup to go!
Hi Overlanders!
Over some time I had plans to build a kitchen for my travels. I wanted it removable as my rig is a daily driver. Also to move around camp to shelter from the wind.
There is a company over here in Australia that do this kind of thing for nearly $600(aud)! I'm a resourceful kind of...
Well it has been a while but I have done some things and seen some great places in the little datto!
The kitchen has been assembled. I'll call this stage 1. I have since coated it with shellac, and currently working out some fold out legs and a flip open table for more bench space. The top will...
