  • Guest, we will be conducting site maintenance August 4th and some downtime is expected. At this time Rally Point and the Member Map will also become an app-only feature for long-term security and stability. A few days after this maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.

    Fog Lights

Prefer round style over the newer LED versions. Also the yellow or Amber lens for the front. The advantage is less bugs and less light flashing from oncoming drivers...HELLA 500's. Probably the best reason behind irritated oncoming drivers are the snow mist/fog glare reduction aspect. This is...

    Overlanding with a Cat?

It is the RARE Cat that acts like a dog. Not aloof, but craves your attention like a canine companion. They can be a pleasure to have around, all in a small compact package. I would think a great camping companion. We had a horse stable mommy cat that had that disposition.

Whats one item you cant camp without?

So true. I have a cast iron skillet from 80 plus years ago. A hand me down...great grandfather .grand mother...mother....and now me. Ditto the seasoning history. With that...non-stick spray, extra virgin olive oil, butter, and collected bacon grease. Ad seasoning of various types, and your...

    Lighting up Camp

Yup, Coleman lanterns x2, the newer battery lanterns for tent use, LED and old school head lamps. Love the hiss the latter give off. Only downside is the fragile silk element socks, and their prep. LED technology has revolutionized battery powered gear, and made them a practical gear option.

    Cash or Card

Something to keep in mind: Does your CC have 24/7 customer service? I mention this because my VISA does not. More like bankers hours. The fraud number will help you to freeze the card, but everything else is a m-f affair. On the other hand, my DISCOVER CC has 24/7-365 access, and very...

Jerry Can safe for drinking water

Sceptor x3..US all7 military, plus 3x British military cans. All of them 5 gallan size. I also have 1x old school military steel water can that is only good for non potable water...aka...fire suppression. Covers state fire season requirements when combined with a shovel and axe.

    Cash or Card

My experience was not in the USA, but in Canada. Been there 2x. First time I did currency exchange, company credit card, and personal credit card. Besides the hit you take on cash exchanges, any money not spent is another loss if you exchange back to US currency. In Canada, they will take...

Advice On Battery Terminals With Multiple Connections

Side terminal batteries are more challenging than the older style top poet's for add-ons. A further complication is that dual (side/top) batteries lack the CCA's we diesel engine owners need. Gasoline engines can skirt this limitation by not needing as much power reserve, that these batteries...

    US East Toyo Open Country (5) 265 65/17 $350

Just went with the AT2 TOYO, on my last new set. So far I like them. In the rain, they seem more predictable then the BFG's I had used before than. A much cheaper cost alternative than the KO2's . If I get the 50,000 mile treadlife they are supposed to reach, I will be a happy camper. The BFG...

To Snorkel or not to Snorkel

So cool, and a low restriction protection option. I have used a OMNI foam filter for years on a Suzuki King Quad, and years ago on a carbonated Ford 6 cylinder pickup. My preference has always been oiled foam over oiled gauze. I like this over a cotton cover, as it is washable, and the oil will...

What piece of gear made the biggest improvement to your experience?

I want one, just can't justify it. I have dealt with the floating sandwich fixings on more than 1 occasion I have heard of the YETI not holding up to the $$$ expectations. On fridges, I think the newer fridge/freezer units are the wave of the future. That South African brand... snowmaster...

Still on the hunt for that elusive member II meetup. Had foot surgery, so no driving at this time. Depending on others for transportation. Still hope to see someone by chance. It's only a matter of time. Hope to be mobile again in the fall:grinning:

    Right of way?

Learned long again,....motorcycles and ATV riding, to try and signal group numbers when in mountainous and winding terrain. Many also reciprocate this but i still run into those who have no clue. You hope they are just....newbies....

Pin it in a recovery thread also? So it is more easily found?

    Duck Creek Village, Utah

Hope you had a great time. For those contemplating a trip that way, There are many trails (ATV) and roads (vehicle) in the area, Duck Creek has Atv rentals if that interests people. Swains Creek has public access areas, as does Strawberry Point, and the country behind it. Deer, Antelope...

    How much Fuel is enough?

At least 1,.... 5 gallon spare and your tank as full as possible at the trail head entrance. Doing a winter project(Canada/Alaska), we were instructed to fill the vehicle at every opportunity because many places were either on reduced hours, or closed for the season during the winter.

Chains vs airing down off pavement (in snow and ice obviously!)

Chains are a pain, but you better have them in the winter back-country. Also, V-Link chains are a prudent option if any ice will be encountered. I once slid down a off-camber hill, like a sled towards the road below. That was a big pucker slide, keeping the truck under some control....not fun...

    The open gate

In Nevada, you follow the creed of leave it the way you found it. open...leave open, closed....close it behind you. Since so much of the State is BLM, and the cattle/sheep business is leased, you respect how the gates are found. Actual signage is rare on them, unless your entering private...

    Best Traction plates??

Many board options now, and the cheaper boards are being produced with better quality plastic. HOWEVER, the cheaper boards quickly become more expensive as soon as their sales numbers take off, and people discover them. And the price increase is substantial, not subtle.

This would be nice to have 'pinned' in a recovery forum thread, along with some basic gear use....do's and don'ts.
