    Bronco rooftop limitations

You may have to wait for more aftermarket solutions to arrive to get the rack capacity you want. My Jeep has the same issues with rack load capacity directly on it's fiberglass roof and to get the higher load capacity rack solutions that drill through the roof to attach to the roll bar such as...

    Full Time (storage of stuff)

What if after several months or a year you decide that full-timing isn’t for you or for some reason it isn’t working out? Perhaps renting an inexpensive storage unit in Arizona or similar for a year would allow you to hedge your bets and also allow you to settle in to your new mode of living...

Old to Camping New to Overlanding

In general I have found that long-time campers or backpackers are actually overlanders that know what they are doing and why they are doing it.

2018 Jeep JK - trouble (re)starting when hot

There has been a known issue with 2018 JK’s and either the temperature sensor in the transmission was faulty or the valve body in the transmission needs replacement as vehicles needed to have the transmission cool down over 5-30 minutes before restarting again. I think there is a Jeep service...

US West San Gabriel Valley (SGV) Coffee and Rigs Meet Up

I have a new solar panel, charge controller, and am in the proess of getting all of the related paraphernalia to setup a managed energy system in my rig. I finally hardwired my rear dust lights into my factory switches. I bought a faucet with integrated electric pump that fits my water cans to...

Wiring for Solar, Isolated Starter Battery, External Battery

After doing some more research and checking out the Kisae DMT-1230 I found a good price for one of those units and am going in that direction. I am now in the process of getting together all my wiring and the various connectors, etc. to get everything connected and to make that factory rear...

Which vehicle do you guys recommend!!!

I think your main problem with any vehicle in the $2K to $3K range regardless of capability is how reliable and problem free will it be. In addition to the vehicle's purchase cost you will need to likely budget for minor fixes and maintenance that will need to be addressed. It's not just these...

    Definition of camping

If I have no tent or shelter and just sleep in my sleeping bag under the stars am I camping? Is at least one night stay required for camping? Is camping a prerequisite of overlanding? If I drive on a bunch of trails during the day in the local desert but came home for the night was I...

    Domestic CFX3 Anderson Plug

I have been looking at possibly doing the same with my Dometic fridge as I don't like the cigarette plug and have been having issues with it on rough terrain. Inside the Dometic plug is a standard 10A fuse which you can change out by unscrewing the top. You can also unscrew the bottom portion...

Do you really need heated seats and remote start?

I use the basic crusie control in my Jeep JL and I find it useful in reducing fatigue over long highway streaches. Can anyone here with the adaptive cruise control on the Jeep JL or JT comment on how well it actually works? I have found that ”smart” functionality on my Jeep is poorly done...

How heavy is your overlanding JKU?

I have a 2020 JLUR and my calculated weight with all my gear, fuel, and a passenger is less than 200 lbs below the GVWR of 5,800 lbs. I have the Mopar steel bumpers, aftermarket rock rails, and a Rhino Rack. Aside from those mods everything else is stock so this weight is before any bigger...

    What size refrigerator?

I have a 35 quart Dometic (CFX3 35) in the back of my Wrangler 4-door which is more than adequate for my wife and I. Even though it is the smallest of the current Dometic units it takes up about 40% of the cargo footprint behind the rear seats and you would want to think twice about higher...

Wiring for Solar, Isolated Starter Battery, External Battery

I am trying to determine an effective solution for integrating solar with my external battery (Bluetti AC50S) that will provide power for my fridge (Dometic CFX3 35) as well as various USB power points for charging camera batteries, drone batteries, etc. I would like to have a solution that...

    Bluetti

When I bought my AC50S through them on 11/23 it didn’t ship until 12/8 and then I received it two days later.

Do you really need heated seats and remote start?

When you live in Southern California the heated seats and steering wheel are what you are trying to avoid most of the year. The one non-essential upgrade that I got on my JLUR was the keyless entry. I have found that to be a great convenience.
