Here's the preliminary on-road route from where we live.

This will likely be a 3-week trip with the first stop ("B") being for my wife and her cousin to do a hike in the Wind River Range. The main...
Keep in mind it's ULTRA-low sulfur diesel (ULSD) that is needed for 2007+ trucks. Low-sulfur diesel has been around for decades and is what was available before the ULSD mandate. This is critical to know because if you think it's LSD that you need and are looking to make sure locations have...
I personally haven't heard of this happening to anyone, though that doesn't mean much. I am on some large overlanding groups on FB, plus these forums so I'd think if it were something worth worrying about we'd be hearing about it first-hand. I don't doubt theft has happened, but I suspect it's...
M/Ts are awful in light snow. Not too awful in some deeper snow, but there are better tires. M/Ts lack the siping and tread pattern that make them good in the snow and ice, my XJ with M/Ts was sketchy on lightly-covered pavement but my JKUR wasn't too bad as long as it was in 4WD.
My current...
I had a shell and a Bedrug in my truck for a while but got tired of the storage box shuffle when camping. Removed the Bedrug and installed a Decked storage instead, huge improvement and the tilting fridge slide works great with my ICECO VL60 dual-zone fridge. :)
I have and I've also looked into the OpenSpot 3, just can't bring myself to spend the money on those. At least an HT with DMR or D-STAR would fill 2 voids for me, but so far I haven't really felt the urge to pull the trigger. Have other priorities at the moment. :D
They are similar looking for sure, but the TYT and Yaesu are not the same radio. The control head's physical design is clearly a clone, but that's where it ends. There are some OK Chinese radios out there but a lot are questionable in terms of quality as well as actually meeting FCC...
Definitely would do a diesel heater. There's also gas versions as mentioned above, but Venture4WD had a video recently where he talked about his gas version not being as clean and reliable as the diesel version and he'll probably be looking into replacing it with the diesel version at some...
Ordered the ICECO VL60 dual-zone with cover over the weekend directly from ICECO's website, basically $125 cheaper than on Amazon due to no sales tax and a 12% discount code. I'd been debating between this larger dual-zone and the VL45, my wife kept insisting that these are "so much smaller"...
It's not exactly obvious where to find this, but they have this on their site to show how to use them as blocks of ice. Block of Ice - WaterBrick | Building Hope...Saving Lives!
Home - WaterBrick | Building Hope...Saving Lives! - And yes, BPA free, meets FDA standards, etc. I filled 2 bricks with water in Silverton (great tasting water, BTW) and there was no plastic taste when drinking the water from the bricks.
I bought 4 of the WaterBricks for our recently-completed trip to Colorado; Filled 2 of them as directed for freezing and tossed them into the freezer to work as blocks of ice initially, left the other 2 empty to fill once we got there.
Had no problems with them in terms of leaks, can confirm...
Our RTT has a 3" "memory foam" mattress, my problems with it are not enough lower back support when I'm on my back and my hips finding the bottom in short order. My wife has no problems with the mattress, so I just ended up buying a Kelty Galactic self-inflating sleeping pad to put under my...
So, we got back from CO earlier this week. We had planned on starting home on Thursday but decided to head back on Monday instead. We were all pretty dusty and felt that we explored and camped enough for our first official overlanding trip. :) The roads/trails in green are all the ones we...
For carrying, I've got what is probably the original version of this Gerber multi-tool - https://www.gerbergear.com/en-us/shop/multi-tools/all-multi-tools/multi-plier-600-stainless-needlenose-07530 - which I've had for probably 15 years now? It was a gift from my mother-in-law many moons ago...
This time next week we'll be on our way! Did a test load of the gear in the bed of the truck yesterday, it'll be tight but not too bad. Efficient use of space is what I'd call it since with the exception of the table, chairs, screen room, and pop-up shower room everything is in a storage...
