    Leaf-Pack Upgrade

I just installed a set of Deaver expedition leafs a couple of weeks ago along with Peak 2.0 rear shocks, night and day difference. With the way I have my truck loaded the new rear suspension makes it feel like I'm not carrying anything. My truck is never not carrying a load, thus the...

GMRS: "not impressed" or "we musta been doing something wrong"

For example, look at the very first line in the chart on this page. The other thing to mention is that you didn't say which channel(s) you were using with the radios, so you may have been shooting yourself in both feet without knowing it. If you were on a channel between8 and 14 then the radio...

    Sleeping bags

Our 0F bag is super comfy. It's also super huge, but it's a double bag. Our summer (32F survival rating) bag is also a double/queen size bag. Quite the difference in size when packed up. I wouldn't necessarily recommend a mummy bag, but would recommend a bag that has a survival rating 20F...

GMRS: "not impressed" or "we musta been doing something wrong"

There were multiple factors at play with your issues, none of them related to GMRS like the subject says. Some are physics (All radio is effectively line-of-sight, it's just that some radio waves bounce off or pass through various objects better than others), some are perhaps unrealistic...

    Jackery Power Station

Congrats! In terms of efficiency, it's almost always more efficient to avoid any voltage changes in your power. Going from your 12v truck power -> 110v inverter -> 110v fridge input -> 12v/24v actual use, or 12v truck -> 110v inverter -> 110v Jackery charger -> 24v charger output -> Jackery...

Installing and powering a fridge in vehicle

And with good reasons, don't want to be left stranded, don't want to use your starter battery as a deep cycle and shorten its life, etc. How many Wh the fridge will use depends on a number of factors; Outside temp, fridge set temp, how full the fridge is, if the fridge is in the shade or direct...

    Satellite Communicator

Strange regarding the messages being per-party/service, not sure why that would be or why that would only be the case once you go over your allotment. I'll have to take your/their word for it happening, but indeed there is nothing in their ToS about that. With the Garmin service you can easily...

    Satellite Communicator

I would argue that it's not Zoleo's fault they didn't read the terms that are clearly laid out on the website showing the plans, pricing, and terms. If it's a general "I wish I could" complaint, ok, but to say they feel roped in or surprised by the activation fee and not being able to suspend...

    RAM 1500 vs 2500, Payload / Features

There are no mods you can do that will increase payload, those are factory-certified numbers and take into account the tires, axles, suspension, brakes, and chassis/frame. The OEM tires are more than capable of supporting more than the factory payload rating so that isn't the limitation. You...

    Roof top tent

I have the Nomadic 4 from OVS (manufactured by the same Chinese company that does most RTTs), this is a smaller and cheaper RTT they offer. https://overlandvehiclesystems.com/18019933-ovs-tmbk-3-person-roof-top-tent-with-green-rain-fly/ The used market is nuts and even a lot of the new market...

2017 GMC Canyon Denali CCLB budget-ish build

Forgot to add, I also have a 120w Bluetti solar panel to help keep the Jackery 1000 charged if we're staying put for multiple days. Picked up an MC4 -> Andersen adapter off of Amazon to make the connection and it works great.

2017 GMC Canyon Denali CCLB budget-ish build

Thanks! For my truck Decked says the installed weight is 230LB. The Deaver expedition leafs are supposed to add 1.5" of lift when carrying 500LB. I'm over 500LB and have more than 1.5" but the leafs haven't settled yet since they've only been on since last Saturday.

2017 GMC Canyon Denali CCLB budget-ish build

I'm a little late to be starting a build thread since I'm basically done, but thought it would be good to post for posterity in case anyone else were interested or had questions. It started life bone stock, I bought it new in Nov 2017 with 12 miles on the clock and has the 2.8L Duramax diesel...

Fridge Sizes - Let me see yours!

It's been great! Only had a chance to use it a couple of times, will be using it again this weekend but the big trip isn't until July. I'm not sure if I went too big or not, it's physically smaller than the ice chest we used last year but still large. If you have the room for it then go for...

Handheld Radio Recommendations - Ham+FRS+GRMS models

The issue isn't GMRS+FRS, such radios already exist. The problem is no matter what you do or have it's not legal to operate a ham radio on GMRS/FRS frequencies. Doesn't matter what license you hold. The FCC prohibits using amateur radios on non-amateur radio frequencies.

    ZR2 Bison

Awesome! I'm sure you'll love it. If you feel like the seat bottom is a little on the firm side it will break in with seat time. That's about the only comfort-related complaint I had about my truck, but after the seat breaks in I can drive all day without complaint. Looking forward to seeing...

    ZR2 Bison

I'd vote Bison. More capable out of the box, more comfortable, more power (if you care). Tacos are fine trucks, but they can't compete with the Bison. If it were between a Bison and Gladiator Rubicon then that would be a more difficult decision, but personally I don't think Taco vs Bison is a...

    GMRS question

I know, and disabling the ad block for OB forums fixed it (thanks!), just pointing out I don't know anyone that doesn't use an ad blocker these days. I've never had that happen on other forums so it didn't even occur to me to check. Thanks for the tip!
