Here's one of several posts over at T4R on this, mechanically they are nearly the same, both built on the 120 platform.

Specific things I'd check for are the suspension systems, namely XREAS for leaks...
I think an argument could be made for the full time 4wd system available in 3rd and 4th gen 4Runners, given that you'll be in the snow. They use a torsen center locking differential, so in 4hi and unlocked you're essentially in awd.
I'd try and drive both, you may like the secure storage space...
Spent some time looking at tires, only close one I could come up with in a 16-inch rim is the Interco Trxus STS radial. It's 35.1" in height but 13" in width which is a bit wide. I'm not sure about down there, but there's not as many users of that tire up here as other at's so performance...
Haha no worries, I can commiserate completely.. bad wiring is the worst. I'm working on designing a wiring diagram for a Series IIA right now that has a motor swap, essentially starting from the ground up so we're trying to keep it as tight and serviceable as possible. It takes so much time!
That's one of those sizes that's seemed to have fallen out of favor. I was going to say perhaps consider changing your rim size but options don't improve much.. in general the industry has been migrating from 16's to 17's though.
I'd suggest comparing manufacturer's stated tire size instead of...
Dang, well somethings better than nothing. I was checking out the Uneek one's, they look pretty nice too. You're right about the price though. Hopefully Mopar get's in gear and starts producing their rails again.
Epic. How is that Warn Zeon control pack relocation kit? I've got a Zeon from another vehicle that I can repurpose but I'd need to relocate the pack.. was thinking of just selling it for one that's already separate.
No problem. He ordered them through the local Jeep dealer, which for us is Normandin in San Jose. I want to say he applied some coupon for a discount as well, some sort of parts department promotion. They ordered them in from a distribution center.
I will say they were kind of a pain to...
Coincidentally, I just ran through my phone gallery and found a really good video exemplifying what I'm talking about. I threw it up on youtube for you. This is my brother coming down a step, he nailed the line so he didn't hit but if the smaller rock wasn't there his slider would have made...
Can you post some images of the RRO sliders? I'm not that familiar with them and couldn't find much online. Every situation is different, but if you're considering installing rock sliders it probably means there's a likelihood that you'll need them, in which case I would want them to run...
From my experience OME can ride stiff on the 4th and 5th gen 4Runners if you don't get the load rating just right, tried and trued quality though. I'm personally not a fan of Icon's "stage" scheme but that's me. Generally speaking you get the same if not better quality elsewhere for less. I...
I use action packers but have switched some of my gear over to the Frontrunner boxes because of their right angles and interlocking capability. I still have my recovery gear in one larger-sized action packer which needs to change, it's far too heavy and cumbersome when you need something during...
Not offhand, you may have better luck on ih8mud or pirate to see what other's have done.
I don't know what your background is or what your intentions with the build are, but linking a vehicle for a 2-inch lift sounds like a lot of work. Either way, Mudrak in Sonoma or Valley Hybrids in...
I watched a WJ Grand Cherokee get stuck there pretty bad a few months ago, took him awhile to winch out. He just didn't have the tire size or clearance necessary.
I was freaking out a little. It was a section of trail that's essentially a creek, which unexpectedly turned deep. I want to say the intake was on the passenger side so I hugged right, it was awhile back. Either way ya, bad situation.
Here's an old one in my Jeep, you can see the water line on the door. This was uncomfortably deep for me without a raised intake. Measured it at 37" afterwards.
