I am reposting here in the idea and request section.
Any plan or thoughts on adding some off grid (out of cell range) location tracking and messaging feature to the app. A mobile mesh network.

I use the Garmin 700i with inreach. I can use the gps on my tablet. I can also use the maps that are on the device without my tablet. I take it with me when I hike etc.
Most of our travels are out of cell phone service and the ability to send messages with attached gps coordinates are very useful.

Something along the lines of a Gotenna $100, or an open source LoRa device like...
That is true. Even if it has GPS. The receiver hardware (in at least in the ones I tried) was flaky and unreliable. A true gps unit will connect to more satellites. A Garmin, XGPS160, or some other gps unit coupled with the tablet is the way to go.
I use a Garmin Montana 700i with my tablet. I really liked the XGPS160. I just wanted some additional things. I use the inreach messaging frequently. I also grab the Montana and use it on hikes.
I have tried a few of the cheaper android tablets from Amazon. 3 different models I have tried.
They do the job, but will most likely be very slow, or have some other quirk that annoyed me.
I bit the bullet and bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 5g.
I run multiple gps software at the same time...
I use the Montana 700. I also use a magnet based external gps antenna. It has gps when my phone and tablet do not.
I chose it for the inreach messaging capability. The gps functions with my tablet, and the standalone usage as a gps mapping device.
It is rather large and cumbersome to carry...
I wonder in that configuration would the two sources in parallel (fully charged main, and solar charger) engage the solenoid. This would be the same principal that I am using in my setup. If you put a standard battery charger on your main will the solenoid engage?
The solar panel so far is great. The original intent was not to charge both batteries with it. It was for my primary battery.
After I installed the redarc bcdc I left it on the main battery hoping it would fire up the bcdc and charge the second battery too. It does, so I am very pleased.
The...
I just completed my latest electrical upgrade. The 100w cascadia solar charges my main battery. When its full it continues to charge my aux battery with a redarc bcdc charger. Also my spod is set up on my aux battery.
Started the day late so chose a camp site just North of Vegas.
The trailer tracked the easy trail quite well. No issues. Only thing needed is some method to tie down the bedding mattress pads, etc. When we opened the door everything was everywhere.
We had planned to go to Overland Expo West in Flagstaff. We are waiting to see if our camper is delivered on time.
Whitmore is a great trip as well. Decisions, decisions...lol
The dual zones allow you to use both side as a fridge too.
I bought the huge 75 dometic, and it is much larger than I need. I have both sides set to freeze and I have overflow meats in it now. lol
I did purchase a smaller dual zone to use in my fj on trips. Something really nice about pulling...
