Last month I purchased a very nice older roof top box from the local Goodwill for a meager $25 in preparation for the next family camping trip. I tried out the factory strap down points, but after being flagged down on an off ramp and told that the box was flying up off the roof like a parachute...
Remember guys "watch and learn ladies" is an offensive term these days, gotta keep it PC on the internet. Crap, I addressed you as "guys", that's offensive too...
Anyways it doesn't matter what you drive right??
What a great thread with loads of good info!
I've been wanting to dive into the CI stuff for a bit, and the price is surprisingly in reach for someone on a budget. Just bought a 10" skillet and a griddle/grill last week in preparation for a trip in a couple days and I can't wait to cook on it...
Ditch the hi lift for a bottle jack, you don't have any sliders or steel bumpers and a bottle jack is smaller anyway. Safer too...
Stance looks sweet, that Rav should definitely get you off the beaten path!
Put that snorkel prefilter to work!
Used to get a few Haboobs a year out here but it seems like the monsoons have been absent for the last few years in AZ...
Yeah I think if I stay IFS the iron front diff and rear G80 would be a good option, it seems that a lot of Zs came with 3.73s which also makes the swap pretty nice. Of course the other option is a solid axle swap.Turns out you can run stock hubs on an XJ Dana 30 and run stock wheels and ABS...
Thank you! I'm at 176k and don't see any quit in her yet.

Alright it's time for a build thread for the little Jimmy. I'm calling this thing the Jimmy "AT4" after the off road package on the newer GMCs although this one is probably more capable... Come join me for the ride with this less than common rig as I outfit it to explore the deserts of Arizona...
I'm interested... Both rigs down for maintenance currently but the Jimmy should be ready by Nov 7th. Will have to find someone to babysit.
@bawesomfels check it out.
Edit:
Reviews seem mixed, from "we did it on street tires" to "WE ALMOST DIED!!!1!" haha...
Always grew up with the propane lanterns and they are on my list of camping gear to look for in Goodwills and garage sales. I bought a couple of cheapo Walmart Kerosene lanterns before my last trip, ended up with Kerosene all over the inside of my storage tote. Might just go LED next trip...
Hi all, losing my job in Nebraska has lead me back home to the desert. Holed up in Fountain Hills for now while I search for jobs... (I'm a mechanical engineer with 5 years in a production environment managing teams and quality engineering projects if anyone has any leads)
But enough about me...
Hankook Dynapro ATMs on my Expedition are quieter than the Firestone highway tires they replaced. I don't have a ton of experience with other AT tires, but they're quieter than the General Grabber AT3s on my brother's pickup.
