Back in the mid '80s I was camping with group (backpacking) at Dolly Sods in WV during the late summer. Blueberries were in full fruit - so you can probably guess where this might head... We'd been hiking and munching on blueberries all day and it was so cool to step around a bush or tree and...
Needed a small pickup truck for gardening and hauling "stuff". Drove past a shopping center and saw a Ford Ranger with ForSale sign in window. Swung by next day, still there so I stopped and looked it over.
What I liked was "pre-beat up"... so no kicking myself if I scratch or ding it up...
Now? Not much other than weekends and holidays.
I know, that probably sounds odd or backwards to many - but we find that going out during the week vs the weekend is so much more enjoyable. Loads less traffic going to, returning from, and while we're out on the trails we mostly have any...
Guess I'll have to deviate from the crowd here - we bought a Yakima thru REI, their larger one rated as 3 person - it goes up and down with the same ease as others we've seen and "played with" (think Overland Expo East).
Two features that stand out for me as very positives:
1) the rain...
Aw man! Love it!
I'm running an 02 Ranger as well. Would love to get more info on the source for the coil over conversion you mentioned in the original post.
I opted for a Yakima RTT and their bed rack system - so far its great. But if running in the desert there is a dust issue to factor in...
Here is a link for something coming up this weekend - not too far from you IF; 1) you're interested and 2) if you have a rig ready-to-go for the route.
Read thru the entire thread and see if this might work out for you.
Hi Randy, welcome! Hope you get to use that trailer this spring and summer. Wife and i will be driving and camping in N GA, TN, AL, and NC much more this year than we have over the last few years.
Hope to see you "out and about" one day
Keith, on Friday are you going to make the drive in reverse - west to east? I'd be happy to join you. I've got a 2+ hour drive from home to Dillard so could meet there - or if you could suggest an alternate, earlier meet-up point I can do that also.
Nothing is on my calendar for Friday or...
Keith, Thanks for the response and update. One concern I'm having, after reading your latest, is the impact of a large group of tightly configured vehicles driving over the same section of roads, one after the other especially if muddy. Compound that a mid-week rain and then more rain...
Hi Keith, is this going to be a CB "encouraged" communication trip?
I realize with 20 vehicles (or two groups of 10) communications might be a factor to consider. And, of course, since i travel solo almost exclusively I should at least see if I can locate a handheld CB
There is at least one good campsite for maybe 2-3 vehicles in the Goler Wash/Coyote canyon ride. A small shack as well as a "one holer" for potty options especiall good for RTT set ups.
We traveled thru there in very early January 2018 and set up our RTT on the "point" just outside the gate of...
You are most welcome, sorry for running on so much earlier - but its superbowl sunday and I got an "early start" LoL
The downside of my suggestion, if you're on the road engaged in a trip, is that you might not know where you're gonna spend the night! Yikes
If you're sort of anal-retentive...
