The classic RR are going to be comparable to an early Discovery, 94-95 and even shares a bit with similar vintage Defender. One of the challenges with the classic is that there were few to begin with and classic specific parts are drying up. The early interiors were not the best design amd the...
Hey Steve I am going to miss the call tonight. We are in the South Dakota Badlands! Just wanted to chime in with my latest update, I passed my technician test and am now listed with the fcc. I took the general and missed it by one point! Too bad I did not study for that one at all. Coulda been...
On the chance you are an OB member. I saw your gold SII Discovery and noticed the NWOL stickers but did not see an OB badge. Tried to wave you down but just missed you. Cool truck, hope to run across you in the future.
Cheers,
Kris
Purple K is dry chem BC rated and is more effective than typical bicarb or co2. It is far less corrosive than a MonoAmoniumphosphate ABC rated extinguisher. Purple K being a BC agent is best suited for flammable liquid and gas fires. I carry a 5# in both purple k BC and bog standard ABC. I like...
It can be done but CO2 is not the most effective so I would not count on it as a primary. There are upsides and downsides to CO2. Personally I run Purple K extinguishers with MonoAmoniumphosphate as a backup. If your on fire it needs to be out NOW and stay out. Just my thoughts.
As far as NAS spec trucks are concerned a DI will be a better value in my opinion. Disco's rust in the cargo area and defenders rust in the bulkhead. The Discovery is a great size for 2 people to overland. The 90 can get a bit crammed and the 'rare' 110 can be a lot to haul down the road if you...
I just had a thought. Maybe you could rig up a little faraday screen and see if there is a certain source of interference that could be blocked. You could try different aspects and see where you get some needle movement. Mind you I am no engineer.
Mine is just a cheap Ritche, nothing special. Out of the truck it reads only about a degree different. The variance is also very static so easy to compensate for. Maybe my aluminium body helps? When I turn the truck on it will move the needle just a hair but always zeros back out on its own in...
I was really worried about interference but the accuracy out of the box on this one is stellar. It might be off enough if I were making an Atlantic crossing but it as dead on as I can figure.
I am looking for a series one or two factory style adventure rack. Prefer in the northwest and cheaper than a new one. A shot in the dark but let me know. Thanks.
I have always had a memory of the old bubble compass screwed to the dash on the FJ40 that my father drove me around in as a kid. Funny thing is I still have the Land Cruiser but not the compass, go figure. That compass is something that I have missed for some time, especially as a product of the...
Another source would be wildland fire fighters. You could reach out to your local forest service, county fire, department of lands, etc end ask them who is teaching their mapping. They are generally pretty good since they teach mapping for life safety. Just a thought.
Well the long winter has been running me down and I needed to get out. With the NFS maps downloaded I headed out for a solo day trip. I had 2 goals, recharge my batteries to get excited about the coming season and to make 4,000' elevation. I had a side bet with a buddy that told me with the...
I have been needing some the downs for the back of the land rover for some time. Nothing crazy but perfect for what I needed. I must have this sort of thing in every corner of the truck. They look sorta cool and are pretty handy. Good Tuesday night project.
Hi Steve, I totally fubar'd the call. I thought it was on Monday the 16th. Oh well. I am interested in any trips that are planed. Especially since NWOL has been pretty quiet since the conversion.
Kris
Greetings from the Pacific Northwest. Been overlanding since before it was even a common term here in the states. Mostly just driving an old Land Rover Discovery but miss the days in the FJ40. I like to build all of my own stuff and often travel alone but have decided to finally join the...
