    Camp propane stoves

Our current stoves are a 2 burner 18" Partner Steel cook partner and an Iwatani butane single burner. Fortunately those were both much cheaper in 2015 when we bought them. Our single requirement was our stoves had to simmer, which both of those do. Long ago I tried to figure out how to make an...

    Camp propane stoves

^^Great advice^^ We don't use any of those brands but we do have a 2 burner propane and a single burner butane stove. Doing over we'd buy two of the single burner butane/propane stoves that are available today. That being said, we rarely use both burners and we are big coffee drinkers so it's...

    Battery question

I've run both AGMs and Lithium full time, for a weekend and/or occasional multi week trip rig I recommend AGMs. It is much more of a set and forget it system. Most lithium batteries do not want to be charged every singe day, it's why your smart phone uses built in software to vary the charge and...

Going back to a Full Size for my Overlanding

I double checked mine to see where my hole was made since it was a long time ago. I drilled through the handle perpendicular to the shaft where it inserts into the handle. The hole is on the back side or facing down when you are holding/using the shovel. Hopefully that makes sense. Out west it...

    Water for extended travel

You'll get them there. Nothing like a personal hot spring to convince the family how nice it is to get way out there (or being alone camped along a river, lake, etc), at least to us. I also noticed you said you'd be using the interstate. Many rest areas have water spigots. Once you start looking...

    Lithium Iron Potassium batteries. LiFePo

We've run both an AGM house system (200AH) and a lithium house system (150AH, currently what is in our rig). The big difference in our opinion is the AGM system is much more of a set and forget it. You should monitor your power but AGMs prefer to recover every day so leaving solar on and...

Going back to a Full Size for my Overlanding

Cool build out. I wanted to add, if Aluminess didn't already, you should drill a hole at the base of the shovel shaft. They are known to fill up with water and blow out the shaft. We had that happen to one, Aluminess sent us a new one, and we drilled a weep hole and haven't had an issue in 7 years.

    Water for extended travel

We have a Lifesaver and 2 other hard plastic 20L Jerry cans. For the majority of our travels we only used the 2 20L Jerry cans. 40L is only about 5 days for us so if we were going to be out in the bush for a week we’d fill the lifesaver too. We rarely use our water to bathe and just find natural...

    What is your biggest problem?

More money or a rich person that would bank roll us. I know it's not what you are looking for but I couldn't resist. - John

Welcome. We are East coasters but we have explored a little of southern California and Mexico (including Baja). What a great location as a base.

Nissan Pathfinder R50 2002 Budget build

We were actually considering buying a LandCruiser Troop Carrier when we were there. We love that they are used for ambulances etc. We will let you know when we get closer to our plan to complete S.A. We just pulled off the road and are working to replenish our savings. Thanks.

That is an accurate commercial. We didn't explore Brazil up to Venezuela and we missed Paraguay so we'll need to ship the van back (or whatever vehicle we have then) to finish S.A. While we're there we figure we should visit Colombia again then ship to Panama and run C.A. back to the US. It...

    Overlanding Tips for Latin America

Steal away. I'm sure if we ruminated over it for a while we could come up with several more.

In need of some Overlanding Areas near Boise

Probably too far but we really enjoyed the hot springs in the Sawtooth Recreation Area. We spent over a week exploring and soaking last summer and even on the weekends we never had more than 4 other people in a hot spring with us. It was short lived as they would move on and we’d be all alone...

Nissan Pathfinder R50 2002 Budget build

Nice looking rig and great photos on your Instagram. One thing we regret is not leaving any time to explore more of southern Colombia. We extended our tourist permits and TIP but ended up staying in Villa de Leyva for 2 months, having us on a short timeline as we were heading to Ecuador. We did...

    Overlanding Tips for Latin America

    11. Never let your visa/tourist permit or vehicle Temporary Import Permit (TIP) run out of time. Always plan to cross a couple days before expiration. Some countries calculate by the exact time and not just by date. We know of more than one vehicle that was seized because the TIP had expired a...
