We are driving around the world. Right now.

Glad you posted, started to wonder if every thing was OK or if you were just having too much fun

NA Mexico Baja recommendations for 5 day trip?

Download iOverlander or visit the website and start looking into the listed campgrounds and surf spots. We don't surf so we can't give you any leads besides using that app. Being a holiday, returning to the US can take hours even at a small border such as Tecate.

    What I love about overlanding

The people. While we love nature, the far away places, and all of the freedom...after 7 years of fulltime overlanding we can unequivocally say it always comes down to the people.

AN Antarctica Chilean Carretera Austral to Coyhaique

If we make it back to S.A. we will definitely let you know!

AN Antarctica Chilean Carretera Austral to Coyhaique

We have a lot of friends that drove through several parts of Brazil and a couple that drove all the way to Venezuela. Those that drove through Venezuela all had family there so that made it easier for them. We would love to ship south and drive north, this time sticking to the eastern side of S.A.

    Garmin TREAD

We must be one of the odd men out. We use a regular Garmin but not for mapping. I like to see the road contours ahead and our unit has a built-in dash camera. We use our iphone for routing, either Google Maps or Maps.ME, and iOverlander, UltimateCG, and Avenza for planning…along with books...

    U.S. Park Pass

If anyone is ever in the Fort Meyers, FL area the Edison and Ford Winter Estates is worth a visit. Besides the engineering and beautiful gardens full of exotic species, there is a neat photo exhibit about Ford organizing a Muir and Roosevelt trip. Much like the old wagon days, several vehicles...

    My rant for the day...

Every time I blurt out 42 to a question I have no clue about at least one person laughs. I agree that the book is better but the movie scene when they are rescuing Trillian and have to cross the field of no ideas has me at the verge of tears every time.

Budget Rigs for 10K and under?

Dan Grec drove the Americas in a Wrangler with just a ground tent. Another guy (I can't remember his name) would sleep in a cargo box he had attached to his Wrangler. As a single guy, there is no limit to the possibilities for overlanding.

    I’m bringing too much

Every one should have, and know how to use, a P-38 can opener. A stainless set of 5 on Amazon is around $9. One of the best everyday carry items out there.

    My rant for the day...

Don't forget to enjoy your "EXTRA BIG ASS FRIES" with your Brawndo, brought to you by Carl's Jr. Lately, the no tattoo scene is the most fitting.

    U.S. Park Pass

Ours recently expired and we haven't visited a park since, last time we bought one at the first park that had paid entry. We have used them to also get free day use access to several National Forest Recreation Sites in the past, they usually let us get water and dump our porta potti which was...

    My rant for the day...

Years ago we would watch Idiocracy and laugh, today it is more of a cringe horror movie. Maybe we should make t-shirts that say: "Everyone is Clevon", "Save Clevon to Save the World", "All I have is an #$%@ing Clevon". Probably would get sued since all of those are plays on tv/movie catch...

Budget Rigs for 10K and under?

We had an 03 HO WJ but it was the Freedom Edition, so 2wd. We only bought it because a colleagues daughter worked for Daimler Chrysler and had an employee friends and family discount that was about to expire. We ended up getting it on December 31st and back then, not sure about today, the...

    I’m bringing too much

When you're a packer, you're forever a packer...but do you practice pack? I might have a slight undiagnosed case of OCD. On the subject of packing. We quickly realized it was better to organize gear by usage and not necessarily by type. We too have a bin system but our less frequently used...

    My rant for the day...

I can't remember the exact joke and a cursory search didn't locate it but here's the jest (maybe someone here knows the correct version): We had finally invented a time machine and someone was sent back to meet Copernicus. After the initial shock, Copernicus asked "how is life so different in...

    I’m bringing too much

For the ultimate minimalist you can buy your own freeze dryer and make your own freeze dried meals. You don't even need hot water as room temperature water will reconstitute them, just takes a bit longer. The freeze dryer could set you back a few grand so maybe just eat raw ramen noodles and...

    I’m bringing too much

Thanks, same to you. We pulled off the road after 7 years, never spending more than an hour apart, which was rare and usually due to bureaucratic things like when we were shipping the van and only I could enter the shipping yard etc. We were anxious about returning to work after being together...

    I’m bringing too much

We use cup sized jars as drinking glasses and when we need to store something like opened coconut milk in the fridge. We bought a cheap pack of women's socks and slip one over each jar for transport/storage (not in the fridge). Our fear was breaking one while going down the trail and having to...
