The downside to this year is because of the three door system I cant put a roof rack on. Its a hard tonneau cover on the back right now but I am leaning towards either installing a metal cage on the back or getting a topper. It has enough room for my military foot lockers but would prefer more...
I installed a mount inside the cab for my iPad with Gaia GPS app as well as some more plug ins for my phones etc. Added some magnetic mounts as well to hold my phone, music devices etc as well.
I found a 99 Chevy Silverado 1500 with 160k miles for sale a couple hours from me. It was incredibly cheap due to the massive dent down the driver side. I waited a couple months and watched the price drop lower and lower till I couldn’t help myself and went and picked it up. She has a few issues...
Always a pleasure meet another Montanan here. Good to see another full size rig. I use a 99 Silverado and love it. She may be more prone to pin striping but that’s half the fun. Hope to see more awesome trips like this one you posted! Cheers.
As many people have been mentioned cast iron is heavy but if I’m using a vehicle it’s definitely my go to. I have a cast iron wok that is perfect for everything. You can fry, cook, boil water, make soup, etc. it’s easy to clean too which is a massive bonus.
Important medical concern. I’ve seen plenty of people fall out. One of the biggest ways to combat heat injuries is a proactive Approach. Be mindful of the people you are traveling/hiking/overlanding etc.
Some questions to always consider:
Does the person have a history of prevuous heat...
I carry impregnated gauze and have had to use it before. I cannot stress the importance of training with it enough. Take a foam football and make a hole to the center then put your fingers in it and pull apart a bit till there are various cavities within in. A chicken with skin works well too...
We usually end up with various activities to do once base camp has been set and the night starts. Cards especially cribbage, cornhole, keep a stash of paperbacks and such. However for longer trips where we may be out for a couple weeks, I bring out my iPad (which also works as our vehicle’s GPS)...
I’m a fan of your build brother. After I finish this deployment up I can’t wait to start on my own M101A2. How was it first with weight on the tongue? I’m using a 99 Silverado that I’ve converted into an overlander.
Which did you like better? The Pintle or the ball?
how much weight overall has...
Breakfast burritos on the wok. I preslice elk straps, peppers, onions, sun dried tomatoes, pineapple, and mushrooms. Cook the onions first, then throw in the elk, sauté it a bit, then throw the rest of the vegetables in for a few minutes. Crack a few eggs and scramble it all. Throw some pepper...
I am currently devising a trip from Montana through the west coast and back. Planning on heading to Zion first, then the grand canyon, off to the San Diego coast, up through the redwoods to Bend Oregon to visit the last Blockbuster Video (Weird but might as well!) and then back to montana. We...
I got into overlanding because of my father. I left home for college and then the military and lost a lot of years. Every time i would come home my parents would seem older and older. Now my dad is pushing 70. However he's not letting him growing older slow him down. He became fascinated with...
Just a reminder for people who carry fluids in the wintertime. Heat casualties and dehydration can hit people even in the dead of winter. Always be on the look out for it. That being said, if you carry fluids make sure you're not leaving them in your car. You dont want your NS to freeze!
