Living in BC, I've had to apply the rationale of @Billiebob to the many other wonderful places y'all live. I have to admit though, we often underestimate our own back yard, eh. You really don't have to get on a plane or cross a border to have a great holiday.
Here's hoping though, that our...
Recently I went down the rabbit hole when I was looking for a radio for the new build. Eventually I decided on GMRS, a Midland MXT115. I am happy with that decision but recently in preparing for an Arctic trip I was reading the Milepost (the bible of road travel in the north) and for the Dalton...
BTW... we are also planning for the same destination from Victoria,BC and hope to be able to do it in August. HOWEVER .... we still need the Northwest Territories to open their borders so we can get all the way to Tuk.
The alternative IF the US/Canada border opens (which you would need too) is...
Check out the intertractive map at:
https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/sports-culture/recreation/camping-hiking/sites-trails
Hundreds of these Rec Sites are scattered through the province and often situated in beautiful locations (usually on great little fishing lakes!)
These Rec Sites are...
I have to agree with @1Truenorth having lived in Northern British Columbia for quite a while (and you plan on WAAAY further north than that) At 40 below (and BTW that's the same in C or F, google it) vehicles won't start unless plugged in overnight, and try to find a plug when dispersed...
For our 4Runner we preferred on the right hand side of the rear license plate. We have two additional emblems that are on either side of the trailer. If you have 2 emblems (and no trailer) you may prefer the front fender on each side, just in front of the door.
I totally agree with previous posters that reliability should be at the top of your priority list! I didn't always realize that and previously owned a Range Rover. Don't get me wrong, that was a wonderful vehicle in many respects but it is a Land Rover product, and subject to their well...
I finally solved a long standing irritant when driving dusty back roads. The problem was pulling into camp, opening up the door to the trailer and finding the bedding covered in fine dust. It drives me NUTS! I've tried all sorts of things to fix it and after searching online I've learned this...
The Off Grid Pando works really well for us. Very back country capable but with the little comforts my wife and I prefer. The design and engineering are first class but the implementation was a little sketchy on our unit. After many, many fixes, changes, improvements and additions it is now...
2021 T4R Off Road. Pro Comp Rockwell wheels with Toyo Open Country AT2 tires. OME BP51 suspension and RCI skid plates and rock sliders. ARB Summit bull bar with Warn Zeon 10S winch. Tru Cool LPD4590 transmission cooler and ARB diff breather. ARB steel roof rack with mounts for spare tire...
The westernmost part of the state certainly has a lot more going for it. In addition to what's mentioned above there is also Deadwood (old west town), Iron Mountain Road (pig tail bridges), Spearfish Canyon, Sturgis (of motorcycle fame), Ellsworth AFB (museum, B1 bombers and Minuteman missiles))...
We've been "in the shop" since Christmas!! ....well, it seems like there has always been something on our new rig being worked on. But now it is done (if it is ever really "done") and I am itching to get out and start USING the darn thing. Can't yet head south to our fav destination (American...
I just let 'er accumulate until I get home, then do the major cleanup to make the rig presentable again. I can't find the time to fuss when there are so many fun things to do out there.
Same with camp, though we will do a little pickup before we leave (mostly of debris that was there when we...
For me, photography, mostly landscape. So overlanding is a perfect fit to get me to those out-of-the-way beautiful spots.
For my wife, geocaching, often in remote areas. So overlanding is a perfect fit to get her to new caches.
The three activities mesh very well and keep us both happily occupied.
We tow with our T4R with a heavy tongue weight. The heavy rated OME springs bring us dead level. Mind you, that's with an ARB bullbar and winch to counterweight a little. OME BP51's front and rear.
My T4R has TPMS readouts and I assume Toyota wants me to set the recommended pressures to read correctly on their system. My tire pressure gauge is 2 pounds out, so I adjust accordingly.
Why do you drive on a parkway and park on a driveway?
Why do you put a 'ship'ment on a truck and 'car'go on a ship?
When a cow laughs does milk come out it's nose?
Looks like a classic example of ” s**t happens ” It think this sort of thing could happen to any of us. The main lesson is be prepared to help yourself get out of the situation by carrying essential recovery gear. Having someone come along to help is a bonus, but even then you would ideally...
Anderson plugs are great, especially for high current applications. As others have said, there are different sizes for different loads and the colours are keyed differently to segregate currents. I've run a 6 awg wire from my main battery (through a fuse and relay) to an Anderson connector...
