Never be in so much of a rush to get away that you miss the beauty on your doorstep.

We had a free night so jumped at the chance for a cheeky wee overnight explore of Royal Deeside.

Great weather, stunning scenery and all on our doorstep.

Bumped into fellow Overland Bound member Marcus who was there to jump into the plunge pools at Linn of Dee.

We had a late dinner with a quiet couple of drinks until the feisty midge became a nuisance. Broke out the Smoking Midge which did the trick until the hordes became too much and we retreated to the sanctuary of the Colonel.

Nice drive home with a detour to Cairn o’Mount to see a sole paraglider and enjoy the views.

Living in BC, I've had to apply the rationale of @Billiebob to the many other wonderful places y'all live. I have to admit though, we often underestimate our own back yard, eh. You really don't have to get on a plane or cross a border to have a great holiday.
Here's hoping though, that our options open up again sooner rather than later.

Smoking Midge?? We have hatches of sand gnats and no see'ums that can be pesky and bite. I have been testing this stuff since a friend mentioned it seemed to keep them away....for a while anyway.

Haven't tried it for mosquitoes. Will update future results...if you remind me

Smoking Midge was created by a fisherman that likes to fish the remote lochs in the Scottish Highlands where midges could turn an iconic trip into the depths of misery and despair.
