I put just about 100k miles on the swap before I put it down last year for the SAS. Truck is already heavy but it tows a 19ft sea ray. Wont win any races for sure but its a work horse. a sub 3000lbs trailer is no problem.
Ive done many different swaps including LS stuff. LS is simple to do and relatively cheap especially in a chevy. Lots of smiles per gallon. Most of the money is in the fuel system. A TDI is a totally different animal done for different goals but can be done for not too much more. But...
A manual swap is easy to do and should be less than $1000 if you shop it right and do the work yourself. But if you do the auto rebuild look into the 4 to 5 auto mod. not sure it will work with a 5.2
Downpipe re-clocked . waiting on some wrap to protect that link from heat.
Also re-purposed some nascar handmedowns for a metal power steering reservoir.
They are 10" Fox 2.5 so should have just under 4 3/4 inches up for sure. Will have to wait till the driveshaft is in to see if I get all o the other 5 1/4 inches down.
Slight update coilovers are in but waiting on a new plasma cutter to arrive as mine released all its smoke the one day I had some time to fab. Everything you see just tacked for now. Slow progress but I caint complain. God is good! Happy mothers day!
Links are figured out now. I have should have atleast 4 inches of up travel.
This mock up 33.9 inch tire has some room to spare so a tall 34 or 35 should be doable.
Next is steering box. I have a few options. My biggest hurdle is racing the cold.
So after using all my free time on other stuff it was time to replace ball joints again. This time im using a plasma torch. Im sure these ball joints will last much longer and I hope to have it linked in a few weeks. First hurtle is trans crossmember. Looking like a 3 link is doable but I...
Sounds great. Plenty of power and range. You are going to love the range. Im a horsepower junkie but when I swapped my truck the FE put a smile on my face as much as anything. 700 miles between tanks is more exciting than it sounds.
Yea thats the atitude to have with these Dakotas. they are super cheap. but they will need some love. I love fabing but I love saving money even more. Last month marked the 4 year mark on my engine swap and in just fuel savings alone in 4 years paid for the diesel swap. So I will kill...
Looks like people are reporting the housings are melting in some instances. Think I might stick with the stock headlights and add some aux lights later. kinda like the understated stockers.
Ok 2nd gen Dakota peaple I need some new head lights. Do I just grab some high dollar bulbs and a factory junk yard stock housing to replace my drivers side that busted? Or is there a complete housing LED setup that dosent suck?
