I'm finding myself moving further and further away from sleeping bags too. I even bought a more roomy, and expensive, bag from Nemo a few years ago. Very roomy compared to a standard mummy but still too constricting for my sleep style. Think: starfish.
My other issue with sleeping bags is...
Interesting, it almost looks like swamp cooler matting. I'm going over to the Depot tomorrow to see what I can find. The other idea I have is to get some foam gym mat and stick it to the floor of the RTT. Would be cheap and still provide some insulation and padding, but be over an inch shorter...
Good perspective. Very true. We're evolving as time goes on, taking out stuff we don't need, adding things that improve our enjoyment. If we could set up and tear down camp in 20 minutes it would make moving on a daily basis far less arduous.
Canceled our spring break trip through Death Valley and Mojave Road. On the plus side we now have enough vacation time to stay out for three weeks in July. God willing.
I have an Exped as well, they're great. But it's a single pad so we use the queen sized Dreamliner in the RTT. Even when fully deflated there's really not enough room for anything more than the stock Mattress, deflated Dreamliner, and fitted sheet. It would be great to be able to leave sleeping...
I appreciate the responses from everyone. So, we do have a trailer as well.
At some point in the future I would like to get a hardtop RTT like a Baroud or Maggiolina, but for now it's the Smitty. The biggest problem with the Smitty, which causes the greatest amount of time suck, is its lack of...
Curious if y'all follow a plan when doing a longer route like a BDR or similar multi day/week route that has a set start and end point or do you just wing it and travel and camp when the moment strikes?
Of course, the amount of free time will affect the amount of time spent traveling, so do you...
Well, bad news. Those pics are nowhere near Ridgecrest. They are along 395 though. The first one is near Walker. The last two are on the Kelty Meadows trail near Mammoth.
I came upon this placard one day when I was bush whacking through a canyon. Just pushed a bush aside and there it was.
Also came upon a sluice trough literally in the middle of nowhere.
And a car frame.
Lots of good info has been presented here, I'm glad I broached the subject.
In looking at my particular situation, two ice chests just aren't feasible, we just don't have the room. I did buy a larger 65qt insulated chest last year (have yet to use it properly) that holds far, far more than my...
Some good info here. Thanks.
Usually with our ice chest we access it twice a day, morning and evening. We are guilty of not putting properly chilled beverages in with the fresh ice, so in the future we'll freeze a few and chill a few before putting them in the ice.
We have thought of...
Wondering if anyone has ever used dry ice in addition to regular ice in their Yeti/Rtic/etc ice chests and what your results were?
Despite the claims made by these ice chest companies, usually after 5 days or so 15lbs of ice has turned to water. Wondering if adding dry ice to the mix would...
