I'm a craftsman guy all the way. I have been working on equipment, cars, small engines, etc since I was a kid, and used snapon, craftsman, and parts store specials along the way, and I'd take craftsman any time. I usually carry a pieced together set basically only the most commonly used sizes...
My snorkel was actually piped straight to the intake. That filter was the only one lol. The cover for it was literally a coffee can. I now have it run across the engine bay and sit over the starter but right tight to the hood.
Although it would be interesting, no that won't be going on there. I'm actually in the process of figuring out placement of everything, as trail only rigs run by less rules a guess. The gas tank will be relocated, and I might finally carry a spare tire. I'll be eliminating many of the components...
In a recent turn of events, poor ol Max is becoming a trail only rig. So much rot was hidden. On that note, here is her current state. My welder decided it dodn't want any more, so I'm waiting to buy a replacement, then I can resume the build. 6 years or better of hard use on a harbor freight...
I modified 90db magnetic alarms to serve as tripwire alarms. 8 usually covers a large area. coupled with 60 pound test ice fishing line and coffee cup hooks to string multiple trees with each one can give you a large perimeter. On the downside, a false alarm can ruin your night. I agree with...
Small change in design, but more effective in the long term. Looks like the gas tank will be relocated, the unibody rails will be heavily reinforced, and the bed will be one of a kind. Here's the current progress. I only get a hour or two a day to work on it except the weekends.
Been a bit, bought a house and haven't had much time. Not to mention I can't reply or post from home something's up with my browser.... Anyway, the chop process has begun.
I have read a good bit of this thread. From my experience, I started with a Smittybilt XRC4.0 on my 03 blazer then moved it to my 01 Dakota, and then my 92 XJ. Even though it was only rated at 4K, with a snatch block, it never had an issue even pulling my XJ (in her lighter years) at 3800 pounds...
One of the builds I read about used a 4 barrel and with the setup I'm running that's what I'm shooting for. I know very little outside of the edelbrock circle and that's only because I had one. While I love my fuel injected setup (and will continue that build) the carb setup is more purpose...
I've got zero renix experience. But I am currently running OBD1 and I'm building a carbureted 4.0 for reliability and simple repairs. Problem is every carb build thread I read simply gets a ton of panties in a bunch and starts an argument over how much better fuel injection is and that's not my...
Is there a designated engine build or engine mods thread? I'd like to share a bunch of things or at least give people the opportunity to ask about the jeep 4.0 (based on my experience) and I'm sure there's other folks with questions about other engines that other members could answer.
So let's take it back to the beginning. She started out just a craigslist jeep on a beat half assed lift (front only) and a broken coil spring.
Then came the Zone Offroad 3" lift with shocks and a transfer case drop.
Then a bunch of random ideas... Paint, bumpers, lights, all the way out to...
If you read this from the beginning, know that this is updated in real time, and updates will occour.
I've been building my rig for about 3.5 years. I'll dig up the old pictures and show y'all where it all began.
Every square inch of this thing has been touched. To add to that, every...
