Sure thing. I'll try to run it this weekend just to make sure it's open and okay. Sometimes the FS closes roads here in the winter. The high altitude FS roads up around the Cohutta Wilderness have already been closed for the season.
The Real McCoy was asking about hotels. Since I live here I don't have any personal experience in the local hotels, but they rank pretty highly on all the ranking services.
In Canton itself, both the Comfort Inn & Suites and the Hampton Inn are both pretty well rated (4.4 and 4.3 stars out of...
There are a ton of trails not far away. If you can get up early enough you could get up to some good forest service roads for a few miles before you turn towards Canton. It's about an hour from the brewery to Amicalola Falls and all the forest service roads around there like Nimblewill Gap Road...
Awesome! Twist his arm...I've got a couple of interested people as well. I think half of joining something like this is fear that everyone else is way more advanced, hard-core or 'leet than you. I think you'll find that it will run the gambit and everyone is welcome :)
Bring it! It doesn't matter what you drive after all. Always interested in seeing how other people roll off the grid. My 'rig' is just a daily driver with a roof rack mounted carrier and a big back seat.
I might bring my super-cheap DIY version of a Tembo-Tusk Skottle to show off. Who...
It'll be great to meet you!
Here's a direct link to the Rally Point. Just go to that page and look for the RSVP button. Apologies to any graphic artists out there....but the big red arrow evidently drawn by a first-grader points to the RSVP button...
We'll go back. It's a very long drive from Georiga, but worth the miles. We slept in hammocks over in the cedar(?) grove behind us. My hammock was about ten feet from the NP boundary (which is twenty closer to the camp than the Gaia map indicates...look for the boundary markers every several...
EPIC Camp: Eastern Nevada, Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest (steps from Great Basin National Park)
GPX: 38.856535, -114.223978
This is a really private, really remote site with a spectacular view. You are steps from the National Park so hiking is super easy. Just be sure to check in with...
I'm in Rose Ridge Estates off of 140 (Brick Mill Road) just outside of Canton. Well, I'm technically in Canton but everything around me is unincorporated since we are an annexed subdivision. How long have you been gone? Canton has changed a LOT in the past three years.
Sure, my pleasure.
Does anyone know the rules about meetups? Specifically, I can get the brewery to list the meetup on their 'events' calendar if it is okay to push to 'outsiders'. I know I have several people I've spoken with who are overlanders (or highly interested) who want to stop by. If...
It's up to all of us. I'm more than happy to host one monthly at the brewery if the interest is there. It's only five minutes from my house and I have an 'in' at the brewery ;)
By the way, I've sent an email to David Giguere, who mapped out the Georgia Traverse, to see if he'd be interested in...
If anyone wants a place to setup for overnight in the area let me know and I'll see what I can do (no promises at this late date!).
I know a few landowners around here that might be willing to let you open up the tent for the evening.
Oh, and please RSVP in the Rally Point if you plan on...
Excited to join Overland Bound! Here's a snap from my trip to Nevada last year. The Commander was a real trooper and made to this epic camp high on national forest land surrounded by Great Basin National Park.
I'm hosting a meetup at Reformation Brewery in Canton, GA on November 23rd to...
Join us if you can! We'll be able to park our rigs up on the large patio for walk-arounds if you want to share how you roll with other members, and we have a private room right next to the patio reserved for Overland Bound.
Hope to meet you there!
November 23rd it is at Reformation Brewery in Canton, GA. It is located at 141 Railroad street, Suite 500. You'll have to work your way along the Etowah River past the Autozone as The Mill that the brewery is located in is still under construction.
I've booked our event room in case we want...
With the holidays it gets tough to schedule, but I'll throw two dates out to see if there are any preferences.
November 23rd
December 13th
Both are Saturdays, and we could meet-up in the early or mid-afternoon. I'll offer up Reformation Brewery in Canton. We have ample parking and plenty of...
