    Stealth Overlanding Rig

Does it rhyme with wire relinquisher? ;) I’m glad it worked out ok. That sounds like a scary moment for sure! Kris

US West Star Gazing at the High Lakes

This sounds like fun. Could my stock 4Runner TRD Off-road with all-terrain tires (K02's) handle this? Kris

    My T4R build thread

Some good tips and perspective. I’ve come across a few of your videos already and found them helpful :) Thanks! Kris

    My T4R build thread

A Prequel post! The very first "mod" I made was getting the Packasport Journey 90 onto the roof. This proved to be a surprising challenge. The thing is a beast! At roughly 70 pounds empty, and quite large, it was way too unwieldy to lift safely by hand, even with help. I actually got this box...

    Bronco vs 4Runner

I recently got a 2021 4Runner Venture, and I’ve taken it on a 3 week trip to Idaho and Wyoming (from CA). Overall, I’m very happy with it, and I’m excited to build it out. It’s very capable off road in stock form and the vast aftermarket support makes it an excellent Overlanding platform, which...

    OZtent Eyre vs RX series?

It looks like the OZtent Eyre series is an entry-level version of the RX series. Does anyone have any experience with them? They aren’t exactly cheap, but at several hundred dollars less than a similar-sized RX, I’m curious what the trade offs are.. Kris

    Swiss-Link Boxes/ Storage Cases

That's an interesting idea! My intuition would be that the walls are too thick, but a ROAM or Pelican has like a 3" difference between internal and external dimensions, which isn't *that* much less than a cooler. Let us know how this works out! Kris

    First three mods?

As you can see from the responses in this thread, and probably guess by poking around the forum as a whole, there really isn't general consensus on *anything* :) Seriously though, that's one of the things I've come to really like about this community: everyone has their perspective, but you...

    Gazelle Update

I just got an email from Gazelle that there were 100 more T4s in stock. I say "were" because by the time I actually read the message, there were gone :( But, a little bit of inventory trickling in is a good sign. Hopefully they'll be able to start ramping up production more soon... Kris

    Swiss-Link Boxes/ Storage Cases

No doubt the aluminum boxes will hold up better over time, but at 3-4x the cost it's a tough call. But hey, practicality isn't the only consideration. There's nothing wrong with a little subjectivity, and the longer a piece of gear stays with us, the more valuable it gets through all the past...

    First three mods?

I'm just getting started myself, but I'll offer my perspective. To your list of absolute givens I'd add some basic recovery equipment: a shovel, maybe an axe or saw, at least one rated recovery point, a shackle or two and a recovery rope. A bottle jack is also a useful recovery tool. Hopefully...

    Swiss-Link Boxes/ Storage Cases

One of the big advantages I see to the aluminum cases is their space-efficiency. I've still sorting out my storage system, and the thing that frustrates me about plastic cases, even the really good ones, is the discrepancy between internal and external dimensions. To get their strength, they...

Recommendations for cheap/simple point 'n shoot cameras?

This is the approach I’ve settled on. If you have a modern smartphone you're going to have a hard time finding a better point and shoot, at least in terms of a balance of quality and utility. A camera is another piece of gear to pack and possibly forget or misplace. I don’t know about you, but I...

Anyone seen this? Jackery Solar Saga Knockoff

That’s pretty fishy. It definitely looks like the Jackery panel. However, they claim theirs is IP65 waterproof. I have the Jackery panel, and they make no such claim; in fact they caution that they are not even water resistant and should not get wet. I would proceed with caution. Kris

US Rocky Mountain Advice for an Australian couple visiting the USA

This sounds like an amazing trip! I’m not sure what route you have planned through Canada, but Jasper and Banff National Parks are not to be missed. A few years ago I did some cycling in he Greater Yellowstone area (MT and WY). It was all amazing, but the Beartooth Mountains were particularly...

    posting on iPhone

+1 I’ve been frustrated by this myself. As an extra data point, the issue seems related to scrolling. I've switched to an iPad mini as my primary OB1 device. This behavior happens on the iPad too, but it’s a bit easier to deal with, because it's a bit easier to get all of text I want to select...

    My T4R build thread

That’s good advice, and exactly how I was thinking, until I put the existing skid plates through the absolute ringer on our last trip! I’ll post a thread about what happened, but suffice to say my technical off-roading skills need improvement :) The dilemma is, with more clearance, I’m less...
