I believe overlanding means different things to different people as has obviously been stated. I also believe it means different things at different points in someones life
For me, at this point in my journey, it means leaving my home with my vehicle to trek to a destination, (at this point...
When you starting the build thread. Tradesman with Powerwagon package is 98% going to be my next truck. Love the Olive Green. I am torn between orange, blue, or green.
Check out www.HDRAMS.com for some RAM HeftyDuty information.
Got to hit the 4x4 High Clearance road I wanted to in the last post.
All snow and ice is gone. Dug Road is the one we hit. Going up the South side is like climbing a deer path up hill. When you hit the switchback it starts to level out and then proceeds out across the top fairly flat. We hit...
Spent some time in Moshannon and Rothrock the last couple weekends. Looks like all the snow and ice is gone. With the rain today there is some mud though
Anxious to get camping every weekend.
Sorry to derail again...but it isnt often someone other than me gets excited about old dodge trucks.
I love them so much i just can not get rid of them
Of course I have the 2nd Gen already shown here.
And we have a 3rd Gen
And a 4th Gen
I sold these 2 about 6 years ago. This is why I won't...
@Honeybadger762 did you have a sleep platform under the bed cap?
Just curious Why you went the RTT route.
I love the idea of the roof top tent...but that ladder just screams bad idea to me for middle of the night emergencies.
Not gonna lie...i have thought about one but the camper shell sleep...
@Autism Family Travels I still own it. 1999 Dodge Ram 2500 Sport. 8.0l V10 Magnum NV4500 5 speed 4x4 3.55 gears.
It currently is getting ready for some new sheet metal and a clutch.
Some more recent pics. You can see the Pennsylvania cancer is covered by red Duct tape...which bleaches...
That is a great looking rig. RAM is a great base for a buildup.
I may be partial to your truck of choice though
Hope the truck serves you well and you get out to enjoy your setup many times this year.

My passenger side wheel bearing started going bad about 135k. At about 140k I replaced it. Driver's side is still stock.
Do you run spacers with your bigger tires? That causes...
For anyone who cares about the connection here is the changes
Originally you just crossed over.
Then they did a run around.
This will be the end result
And this is the current situation. The red lines are the current road blocks and the green line is the route that is blocked. As well as up...
Just used the new reservation system for the motorized campsites.
Made a reservation in Rothrock for middle May. This was even easier than reserve America.
Very glad they implemented this.
Now to plan for more weekends.
Spent Sunday afternoon exploring and scouting here.
In my other thread Rothrock to Bald Eagle connection I made mention of how construction changed the connection. Well it changed again.
Originally you just crossed 322. Then you had to drive a bit on pavement to cross under and come back...
Spent the afternoon in Rothrock showing my wife campsites 5 and 4 and Greenwood Furnace State Park.
There is still a good bit of snow on some roads. If you are out during the daylight, you will be fine with 4wd...but id you are going to be out while the sun isnt shining...it is gonna be ice...
And now this other road is blocked as well. Hopefully they will open it soon. It seems they are doing road work. It will be very annoying if they permanently close it like the cross over
The tour guide for today. Scouted out some of the roads I plan to use for my overland trip circling central PA.
Made sure both the map and the atlas showed similar roads. Was very happy with both.
Found the 4x4 high clearance roads to still have significant snow and the north sides had slick...
So, in the last post I listed 2 firetowers. Well looking at the map the other day I saw a 3rd. We located it today. Spent some time exploring...but the snow and more importantly the ice kept us to the cleared roads.
We went for a drive through some of Moshannon State forest to scout some roads.
From 1000 feet to 1300 feet the snow is mostly melted.
Once you start getting near the 1500 feet mark...the snow on the south side of ridges is a hard pack. We set out to scout some 4x4 high clearance roads. We...
