Received my maps and information for here.
By far the best envelope of info I have got from any state forest.
They gave a print out with directions, a description, whether it is secluded and easy hard access. And how close they are to water.
That sent the usual day use map and then a detailed...

Spent the weekend in BESF. Got on some drivable trails and even did 3 miles of hiking with my 7 year old son.
Already got a permit for next weekend. Gonna do some more hiking in the area of our site and try to check off a few more drivable trails.
Waiting on maps from Buchanan SF and plan to...
Awesome. I saw a few in a group I am in have made it there and it looks great.
We have stayed at Fowlers Hollow SP which is what got me interested in this whole "overlanding" thing.
Great to know that the upper is better as that is the closest to me.
Thanks for the reply
Thanks for the reply. I do not look for wheeling...just off pavement travel and a natural setting.
I did not realize Cowans Gap was here.
We have been planning to get there...just have not. Now there is more reason to go.
This is why I love this forum. Getting to tag along on trips I can not go on...but finding information for when I can.
Still wishing I could join. Work is ruining my camping career
Looking to spend some time scouting here. Purple Lizard maps will be finishing up their Map soon and will be available for purchase in the summer.
Anyone spend some time here?
Can not wait to get tires in dirt here.
Starting to gather information for a trip here. Got some maps being sent my way.
Got all my scouting done in Rothrock and Bald Eagle. Hoping to get here soon...
Anyone have any experience?
We are probably going to be adding ATV to our equipment list, and they have 2 ATV trails.
@beachdude93
Just seen you are from PA. Each state forest has a free day use map you can get. Then if the area has a purple lizard map get that. Then the atlas to connect them all.
I have many threads here showing places to go...i get to all of them with a paper map
Yep I only use paper maps to navigate. I use the apps to track where I have been for trip debrief.
In Pennsylvania, purple lizard maps are the best.
And I got the atlas for east and west PA to get from one lizard map to the next.
@Dusther210
I suggest this weekend. Then a weekend in May. Then a weekend in June, etc...seriously though. Late spring early fall.
As I have gotten older and have slowed down I have realized in spring, as trees are getting leaves, they all have a different color leading up to turning green...
How long have you had these? I had heard they do not do well with our HeftyDuty trucks. I was extremely interested in them...and if you have had good luck with them with your even more nose heavy Cummins then I would like to give them a whirl. Thanks for any info.
I bought this for 1300 bucks. Tried and true 3.9l V6. Has lots of room
It is 2wd, but has high Clearance and will take on all the forest service roads you can throw at it.
Unfortunately the price of all the used trucks and 4x4 rigs has gone through the roof.
Years ago 2k would buy you a great Ramcharger or Powerwagon or Power RAM. Unfortunately 2k is gonna buy you a 4x4 that needs extensive work.
Maybe you could find a Jeep Cherokee or Grand Cherokee for cheap...
By Mid East Coast...do you mean the literal coast...or the state's in that area. I ask because I do not think there is much at the coast...but in the Mountains of PA, Virginia, West Virginia there are plenty of places to roam.
