Thanks @Boort . I did find on the net where people have camped around it, but it was always iffy if they should have been there. It's a shame that those that did camp there left it a mess, that just makes it harder for others to be allowed to camp there.
Thanks for the other suggestions. My...
Sounds like me after out recent trip. Had to get caught up on everything around the house and work before I could go through all my photos. Can't way to see your images.
I'm not organizing this trip, but the spot I was looking at on Google Maps and on the Garmin site that looked big enough for us all to have some space but still be together was located at
38°32'26.2"N 105°12'06.9"W
38.540623, -105.201905
I have no idea where that location is in...
I've seen some of the patches, they are pretty cool. I just wonder how many of the places (beside the big tourist locations) will have patches? That's one of the things I like about my plates, since I custom make them I can make one for whatever location or trail I want.
I learned about that one a couple of years ago, but have never gotten up there to run it. It's definitely on my CO trail bucket list.
Might even do that one during the summer over a long weekend.
Do any of you do anything to remember or track the trips and trails you have been on?
For the last couple of years I have been making "trail plates" for the Jeep trails that I went on. I'd make one for my son (he had a large collection of them stuck to his bunk beds) as well as one for each...
I was going to do it for the piece of mind as well, but after testing it several times decided I'd get better piece of mind applying that money else where. And for piece of mind, you would be served just as well with one of the ~$150 jumper boxes. You can search Amazon for "solar power 12v...
I used a weatherproof case for my "soft" dry food. Bread, beagles, chips and anything else that can get crushed easily. It actually worked out quite well and will be used on all trips going forward. The only issue I had with it was that it did not have an purge valve. This caused and issue...
They can be tough to get a hold of, but every time I called I was able to talk to someone eventually. I actually bought my rack used from a buddy of mine (he no longer needed a rack) and they were still happy to help me with all my needs. I'm only about 1.5 hours south of them, so I drove up...
I was able to use Google Maps last night to sort of scout out the area. At nearly the end of the road it looks like there is a large enough area that the group could spread out some, but still be in the same general area. I don't have to work that weekend and the wife has signed off on me...
I cut my teeth on slide film back in the day and miss the old school days sometimes (but not often). I was out of photography for several years and then made the jump to digital.
I still carry and use my phone for pics while I'm out shooing with my "real" cameras. Its a tool like any other...
It looks like 12 people have signed up on the Rally Point. Is there camping space for that many rigs without damaging the area? Not trying to be a Woods Nazi, just wondering is all as I've never been in that area.
The idea of an overland photography workshop had crossed my mind and there would definitely challenges to it.
I also agree that an overland photography group would need to be small, 2-4 people/rigs max and that the skill level needs to be close between everyone. Personally I'm not very good at...
