    OOrah!

    Digital alternative

Since I'm not going to rent (also known as "subscription") land navigation software (e.g., Gaia, et. al.) without a lot better reason than anyone can currently provide, I looked for an alternative for use off-line. What I've found so far requires a little bit of prep work, but it does the job...

    Windshield Pics...

Our Ram is pretty well set up for most roads like this. Given a reasonably decent rig most trails are not particularly a problem if the driver is competent. Going up this the day before was more of an issue with the sun right in our eyes. My wife drove while I took pictures. (No, not her first...

    Windshield Pics...

It's worse going up. Going down was pretty smooth sailing.

    Tire Inflation Advice Needed

I'm using a Viair 88p on my stock Ram 3500 tires. Takes some time, maybe 20 min to do all 4 from 40 psi back up to 65 or so. I'm rarely in such a hurry that this seems like "too long". I just use the time to enjoy the view.

Budget Videography tips for a Beginner

Varies depending on the type of film. For some of our non-profit organization videos it can be quite detailed. We typically start with a script written by the non-profit, then work with them to tighten it up, and then build a list of the shots we need to illustrate the story we/they are trying...

Budget Videography tips for a Beginner

We use two types of mount for our GoPros (Hero 3+ and Hero 4), a suction mount and a flexible arm with a clamp. The suction mounts vary widely in price - this is the one we purchased and it works very well: Amazon.com : Panavise ActionGrip 13101 Shorty Suction Cup Camera Mount (Matte Black) ...

    Rig getting heavy

Here's another option for beefing up your springs: SuperSprings International | Journey Better We added some pretty heavy-duty ones to our 1-ton Ram and it sets dead level now. The drawback is that if we dismount the slide-in camper, it rides pretty rough on the stock shocks. We solved that...

Budget Videography tips for a Beginner

I'll add a 'second' to the YouTube Channel suggested by NJCoastal for Matt's Off-road Recovery! We never miss an episode!

Budget Videography tips for a Beginner

Off-topic, your user name caught my eye. When you use "ontos" is it in the Old Testament sense, or the Marine Corps' antitank weapon sense?! (Marine asking.)

Budget Videography tips for a Beginner

Whoa. That's quite an 'ask' and simple answers won't help you. Warning: Any time you ask for opinions, it can help to have a thick skin! We participate in a local multimedia group and when someone asks for a critique on a video they've just shown, we ask them where they want the dial set on...

    Photography

Is that mist on the water? A very nice effect indeed with the tree reflecting through it.

    Photography

That first photo (backlit trees in bands) is spectacular, photography contest material! Very, very nice! The one of the youngster with the pumpkin is also nice - it's a portrait worth keeping. Also a fan of the raindrops on the Toyota... Anyway, very nice stuff -- keep shooting by all means!

    Peak Design Gear

Notice OB now has some Peak Design pouches in the gear store. We've been buying PD gear since their first Kickstarter campaign somewhere in the early 20-teens. Still have (and use) that first Capture Clip, in addition to other products. Where am I going with this? They make great stuff! Nothing...

Thoughts on Ram 3500 w/ flat bed tray & Four Wheel Camper

OK, I'll bite... Not having read any more on the RPM Act than, "The RPM ACT is a movement against the EPA and the recent regulatory actions that will prevent modification of personal vehicles for the intent of racing or modifying for off-road use. " which I found with a quick on-line search, how...

Thoughts on Ram 3500 w/ flat bed tray & Four Wheel Camper

While I DO love the power of the Cummins diesel, I must concede the point made by some here IRT DEF issues with the new diesels. We have had the dreaded "limp" mode interrupt one trip so far and if you're looking at a 1200# camper, it sure sounds like you could definitely consider a gas rig. One...

Thoughts on Ram 3500 w/ flat bed tray & Four Wheel Camper

IRT DRWvs SRW for trails? SRW -- definitely SRW. We have been on many forest service roads in the west that were a piece of cake with our 3500 SRW that would have been a royal painintheass with a dually. Narrow spots between trees, tight corners with small obstacles, rocks bordering the roads...

Thoughts on Ram 3500 w/ flat bed tray & Four Wheel Camper

If you check out our avatar photo, that's a Ram 3500 SRW diesel with a Lance 650 hard-side camper. You will downright *love* the maneuverability you'll gain by losing the trailer. Our 3500 is definitely too much truck for the camper, but then, that's not really a "bad" thing. We could get by...
