Rigs have to have a personality to get named. I've had dozens that are just "the truck" or "that damn thing," "goddamn POS Toyota," only a few that have been named. I had an ancient Fuego (remember those French oddities?) that was "PJ," a ZJ named "Nadine," and my Bus who is "Aphroducky."
My CB SWR meter will work on 2m/70cm if you reverse input\output (rig into the antenna lead, antenna into the rig lead) and surprisingly was accurate when compared to a ham meter, though I don't know how that would go with 10/6 (assuming those are the other two bands). YMMV
I like this idea, won't even touch on the cultural & resource differences. I would hazard to guess that, say, NC, doesn't have to worry about it being 85F at noon and 29F at 1am in the same 24 hour period.
Got some more done before the skies opened up with some very much needed rain. Before I started I had to run to the dump, while there I checked out the freecycle tent, poking through a box of misc junk, I saw something g that didn’t belong in with the fondue pot and nasty looking cutlery.... I...
Same here in northern Maine. Both 2m and 70cm repeaters are active all day and night. .52 there's at least one person signing on "Kxxxx listening on 52 on mobile." When I got licensed in Feb, out of the 23 people taking the test that day, 19 of us were local FD\EMS providers. Cell coverage is...
Had some time tonight after work to play around with some of the new stuff. So, this cheap ass solar panel from eBay wasn’t quite as described. Reached out to the seller, and though they responded quickly, they really didn’t know much about what they sell. Yeh, and English definitely wasn’t...
because sometimes a token creature comfort can mean the difference between an enjoyable weekend away with the better half or a long ride home with a grouchy woman. You’d be amazed what a bowl of popcorn can do for the mental health when it’s pouring out and someone isn’t really feeling “roughing...
Waiting on parts, seems like nothing comes on time or all the stuff I need for a project arrives together :(. Mostly what I'm waiting for are exhaust parts and other mechanical stuff, though the three "fun" projects all are sitting at 80% here, 20% being delivered by pony express... and the pony...
That wattage is the cooking wattage, it isn't the draw wattage. Typically a 700W microwave will have a surge of ~1500-1800W and a continuous of ~1000-1200W. I have a old 12v\115v Half Pint, rated at 500w cooking, pulls 660w\55a continuous on 12v, 880W surge.
Up in my neck of the woods, the rig of choice for natives goes like this:
1) full-size domestic 4x4 truck
2) Jeeps of all flavors (except compass and patriot)
3) Subies
4) domestic full-sized SUV
5) everything else.
The best radio on the planet is just a noise box if the antenna is crap or poorly mounted. I would avoid "packages," get a decent radio that is in your budget and a GOOD antenna.
I have curtains in my rig (VW bus) and while mirrors are great, a little more visibility to the rear would be nice. I’ve been looking at cheap Chinese back up camera systems in Fleabay and was about to pull the trigger when shipping went from a couple of weeks to “sometime before Christmas 2021...
my first car was a 71 Super. Loved that little thing:)
Nice bus, I want a roo bar ! Love the deluxe trim on your bus, looks good with that color
So today was GORGEOUS out. Supposed to mow the lawn but somehow got sidetracked :). Got a few more things knocked out.
Finally got my Renology fuses...
I use Bentoben cases, have since my iPhone 4s, currently on an X. The come with a detachable belt holder that doubles as a kickstand. The case itself is ABS wrapped in rubber. I work rural EMS so my phone gets pretty abused - dropped, dropped and kicked, slammed against a door frame, etc. - I've...
