A litre of oil, a deep fried beaver tail (google it) and some poutine. The Canadian dollar doesn't go very far, eh :-)
Now.... if that was US dollars I'd buy a new rig!!
'Buy once, cry once'” is ABSOLUTELY a great strategy on so many levels ... not least waste avoidance. Built in obsolescence is a great crime.
I still use clothes I purchased decades ago, and it gives me great pleasure to ”repurpose” things I've kept in my workshop ”just in case”.
And @grubworm...
It's all about ventilation. We give off a lot of moisture as we sleep and good airflow is crucial. When it gets cold we tend to close off the outdoors but the accumulating moisture just makes you colder in the long run. Better to ”open up and cover up” ... more ventilation and more blankets...
23Zero Peregrine 270 here. Mounted on our Off Grid trailer. The rear cross bar means we can fully open our galley hatch and have full coverage down the driver side, over the water heater box (and shower) and around over the galley. The 2 walls give us a lot of flexibility depending on the...
I have a Glo2 to get better satellite reception in the wild for my tablet running Gaia on a RAM mount in front of the dash. I never thought to use it to boost drone reception. I have the original DJI Mini and assume it would work with that as well?
Thanks @Billiebob, great info!
As we traveled the province with my work for 30 odd years we were never posted to the Kootenays. I did work around Christina Lake with the Parks Branch many eons ago (between university terms) and have always wanted to get back. We are really looking forward to...
Rights notwithstanding, I like to feel welcome wherever I go. We'll see how the mood is by August and in the meantime check out the only part of the province we haven't lived in yet .... the Kootenays!! Tentatively planned for late May and will stick to the lower elevations.
Hi all, from Victoria on Vancouver Island. We usually like to travel in the American Southwest but over the past year have been checking out our own backyard. As is so often the case, it really isn't necessary to travel too far from home to find great overlanding experiences.
If the US border...
I have lived and overlanded in Australia and overlanded in Africa. For most of my life I have lived in Canada and overlanded throughout North America.
I have enjoyed them all ... each for there own reasons.
I have to admit I feel most comfortable in North America as it is ”home”, despite the...
I agree wholeheartedly with @Road about the trailer (Off Grid Pando for us) and @grubworm about the mattress (4” with 2” topper here).
I will add to those a good selection of Backroad Mapbooks which are the go-to reference for BC (Canada) for off road navigation (to supplement Gaia of course).
Agreed on the adaptive cruise taking away from your control of the driving experience. I have a '21 T4R and the pages in the owners manual of exceptions and possible errors was hilarious! I ENJOY driving and don't need the technology diluting my situational awareness.
This is not only a great set of ”guidelines” for an overlanding experience but in many ways a valid ethos to live life. Be prepared, be self-reliant and above all, be considerate of others.
This route is on my bucket list but sadly I am on the wrong side of the Canadian border :-( I would...
I'm a big fan of what Starlink can provide, but not for the ”social networking” or continuous communication (I don't do either). What I see as valueable are the navigation capabilities of always having the internet available, and the ability to communicate in case of emergencies from anywhere...
White Rim Road in Canyonlands NP is a must see. It's best to do over 2 or 3 days, which means booking well in advance for the limited camp sites. The hassle of booking is well worth it though as the scenery is spectacular and the terrain easy with the occasional moderate spots. Every...
What they said! You see those rubber bungies all over the side of the highways. Maybe they could be used for redundancy but the ratchet straps would be best for primary tie downs.
