This is my first year overlanding. I have no idea what "moderate" means, and I don't just stick to gravel roads, though that is mostly what I have driven. Attached pic is the toughest pitch I drove down in the White Mountains. I was told the road was washed out - I think this was the bit they...
I don't have an awning installed - I want something off the back. I had Shaffers Offroad look at installing an ARB awning and they were going to fabricate some mounts to make it work. I am still learning how I like to use it.
I use the short brackets. If I did it again I would use 6 points of attachment - with 4 it bounces around a bit. It is a squeeze getting hands and tools in there, but I got it done. And it works.
Etsuno - I just got back from camping on the Mendocino coast. I expect you found a space at Usal, as I screwed up my camp bookings and it still worked out.
I am booked to explore the Lost Coast with Overland Trail Guides in May. I am new to off road so that should be a good trip.
For this last...
Mendocino county website says the Fort Bragg Sherwood road was closed November 15 2020. Is there a work around on this?
I ask, as I am just getting started and went to Usal Beach last week and fell in love. I just spent 3 days at the beach - it is good to be retired. I also need some time just...

He is really busy, and heading to Baja very soon until early May. But call and talk to him. He has put suspension and bumpers with winch onto my 4Runner...
I already need to cancel.
I signed up, went to add it to the calendar and it is the day after my 2nd flu shot. The first shot left me feeling "off" so it is more than likely the 2nd will not have me in any mood to bang around in the cold.
Bummer as I have all this new gear - winch, ropes...
I see Front Runner offers short and tall brackets to mount roof top tents. The tall allows clearance for adding other gear like awnings, shovels, etc on the side per FR website.
I have a line on a used regular Roofnest Falcon, and I am trying to figure the best way to mount it. I have asked...
I did find this YT that has a front hitch for a removable winch - not what I was looking for, but the hitch would work fine.
Look - I am utterly new to 4x4. I am not looking to rock crawl with this - it is about getting out of tight spaces. A front hitch would also allow you to negotiate...
Being new all I have is imagination. Being retired it has to be easy. If I poke down a skinny trail with a teardrop, and the trail gets impassable, I could see a front hitch being very handy, assuming I could get the truck turned around. My dad had a 20 foot boat on a trailer and had a front...
Bought insurance for it, haven't set eyes on it yet. T4R TRD off road w KDSS, Metallic Gray.
I have never driven a 4x4 before. Hopefully I pick it up next week. Sent up the bat signal for some friends to help me pull the back seats and build an interior.
It has been a year of planning so far...
I voted maybe, as I am ready to buy my first 4x4. I have a Camry stick shift I love that has to go to make space for the 4x4. I have owned a good number of Ford trucks, and I will keep my '91 Ford Ranger for work as it is the best truck I ever owned and I usually had Tacoma's.
I have been all...
How do I get in line for the Modesto Ham Cram on August 15? I heard about this from PapaDave at the Pleasanton meet today. I have also been working through the flashcards at HamStudy.org (right now I have see 93% with a 55% aptitude, but by August 15 I can get that to a passing grade I am sure)...
What I like is it gives room for a winch but it is not so heavy.
I am new to this, so I will have to get some time banging around on some trails before I tweak things too much. When I started thinking about weight I could hardly see how any rig stays under GVW. I was originally thinking of a...
Too shiney. Rub some dirt on it lol.
I will follow your build as I plan to get a Lexus this fall, an older model, and work my way through it. I never saw such a cute front bumper - does it really go bump?
Yes, I am envious :grinning:
1. I have yet to even buy a 4x4. Yes, I am that much of a 4x4 noob. October I will be shopping, till then I am researching.
2. I watch lots of YT
3. Still curious? I found this YT interesting
The biggest point that LEAPS off the page is the effect on braking.
The general conclusion is 2"...
Not an electrician, but read the interwebs. 1000 watt microwave is output power, input will be a more.
I see some full time rvers use instapots that can run off battery, and can warm stuff. Not as fast and clean as a microwave. I have an instapot but I don't use it - its an 8 qt and I am one guy.
I have been doing pour over Peets for decades. I am not overlanding yet - major lifestyle change will be happening soon. To that end I am trying a Presto gizmo that uses kcups. I am supposed to drink decaf now (not the major lifestyle change I was referring to) and have some compostable kcups...
Downloaded the app, tried to login using the same login as this forum (stop laughing!) and it was not recognized. Tried to create an account and when I hit "create account" the button does it's little "button is pushed" gif thing and nothing more. zilch. I am using a Samsung 10, got the app from...
