    AZ / UT - April / May 2022 - Anyone planning a trip?

I could be interested. I retired this year, bought a 2020 4Runner, and started learning offroading. I have had an absolutely wonderful time exploring California, Oregon, Washington. I did sneak into Arizona and Utah and fell in love with the desert. Mostly I have been travelling solo - no spouse...

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Hmmm. Done. Took zero seconds as there are zero public dirt roads around here. I have looked. But I did get an awning installed. It was very fiddly as I have a rtt that sits tight to the front runner rack so I get bruised arms squishing them through the available openings, I bought a 90 degree...

Swap cigarette lighter socket to Anderson plug

Topping off batteries - a jackery and a bluetti. The 2400 WH Bluetti needs 16 volts input, so I got a socket put in specifically with heavier gauge wire and a 15 amp fuse, then use an inverter. It is not as simple as the Jackery, but it gets it done till the damn plugs rattle out of connection...

Swap cigarette lighter socket to Anderson plug

I am looking online for a part to replace the vehicle cigarette socket with an anderson plug. Does someone have a link to where I can get this? All my searching finds is adapters. I want to swap the cigarette plug out, as that is the connection that won't stay connected when I am banging down...

    Thread Shutdowns

So.. as I see it THIS thread is exploring how we interact. And I will say that even more than overlanding, weather, rigs, routes and other rigamarole we are here to interact. With that in mind Fritz Perls was a therapist from the 60's I think, who was rather skilled at getting people to explore...

When we had chickens my dad explained it was eggs for breakfast or chicken for dinner - their call.

    Overlanding and CPAP

Thanks! I did mention my issue to the sleep clinic and they offered a heated tube but I feel like I am getting buried in electronic stuff already. I recently bought a Teton -35F sleeping bag, which turns out to be a bed roll. The thing is huge. I am 6" 1" and I can disappear inside it, and was...

    Overlanding and CPAP

Interesting. I have been using a Resmed airsense 10 for about 18 months. Because of covid I did a self help sleep study at home, they said I had severe sleep apnea and mailed me the unit. I am still trying to understand the whole issue. I use a jackery 1000 so I can charge up other stuff, but...

How are you hauling your Gazelle T4 tent?

I carry mine inside my 4Runner. It fits easily from the back of the front seat to the back hatch. I made my 4Runner a 2 seater - I removed all but the front seats. I have a coleman cot that sits against the front seats and the tent still fits from that cot to the back hatch. Then I got a rtt and...

    No more generators in California?

I suspect it won't get policed much in rural areas. Equipment will get bought out of state if needed. In built up areas I already see plenty of battery equipment in use. Also, there is a bad drought happening and lawns are discouraged. Drip irrigation on lawns is temperamental and hard to fix...

    No more generators in California?

Can anyone figure out how to hook this conversation to an actual flywheel so we can get some good out of it?

    No more generators in California?

I am a retired CA landscaper and this issue has been coming for decades. It was talked about in the 90's. And I see plenty of battery powered options for city residential work. What will get to them is the power going off and no portable generator options. It seems to me they are pushing...

    No more generators in California?

If folks just idle their engines for electricity I wonder how that stacks up in emissions compared to portable generators over time?

    Before you Buy Rooftop Tent

Pee bottle. I sleep solo, my Falcon Roofnest has pockets that work perfectly. I also have a T4 Gazelle and a cot, but the rtt goes up in seconds. OK - I have to toss up sleeping gear etc but it is all laid out in my 4Runner to be very easy. And the Falcon has a bag for dirty shoes. I am new to...
