    First Aid?

As far as kits go, I like to outfit my own. I am a Wilderness EMT (no longer certified) so I can get sort of picky about pre-packaged kits. The bag I like the most, as well as the storage and deployment is from the great folks at Blue Ridge Overland. Very good build quality and well thought out...

    Portable Fire Pits?

I eventually broke down as well. It really is a nicely made piece of equipment.

In search of: The Best Ground Tents

I meant no offense, and really tried to go out of my way to say that I was just curious, and that no tent is the "best," to each their own etc... most folks on this forum like sharing their rationality. I am not sure how I could not have been more clear in my question that it was about the...

In search of: The Best Ground Tents

Just out of curiosity, why do you prefer the Tentipi to the Sibley Pro Tech? When I was doing my comparison, ventilation, bug resistance, stove use, price, storm protection floor, useable internal space, ease of set up, strength, etc..., it seemed to check all the boxes. I do think the Tentipi...

That stove is called the Orland, and if money were no option, that is what I would get. An equally good stove is the Fourdog stove. Also of very good quality. BTW, the Orland is in a Canvascamp tent. You can see how thick the PVC floor is, and how it wraps up the side like a bathtub

In search of: The Best Ground Tents

You might want to look at canvas camp. I have this one: https://www.canvascamp.com/en/cotton-tents/sibley/pro/sibley-500-ultimate-pro-tech.html Very good floor, great ventilation, rated for over 70 mile-winds, classic look, and works well with a wood stove. Also well priced. The cons are a lot...

In search of: The Best Ground Tents

I bet it is good for the Burning Man conditions, where you are trying to keep sand out, high winds, and you can afford the air conditioning option, but ventilation seems less than optimal. It does not breath like canvas, and while polls seem flexible and integrated, and set up seems quick, but...

In search of: The Best Ground Tents

Given that this is an "Ultimate" discussion, I think there is a big dividing factor: Are you packing this on your back, or packing it in your rig? My guess is that for most people it is the rig. If weight is not a major factor, next is are you on your knees or can you stand up? This is a...

In search of: The Best Ground Tents

I am talking about another tent, not the Tipitent. The canvas tent comes with a very good bathroom style PCV floor. Very think. Also, good zippers and netting for misquotes etc. The ProTech model is the one I have. Heavy, but a lot less than any RTT.

The canvascamp tent is about 1k to $500, based on size. The one pictured and the one I have is 16ft diameter and 9 ft tall. Pretty roomy. The stove for it can run from $200 to $400.

    TAT advice

I get your point. My son is 14, and is a little weary of so much time with dad. We have done plenty of 4 day trips, but this will be the most ambitious. The got the estimate of mileage per day from Sam himself. I have no idea if going that rate will take 2 weeks or not. I am with you and like...

    TAT advice

Hello folks: I am trying to plan a trip, and would really appreciate any help. Going from NC to MOAB in early June with my son. I am in the process of getting the maps etc, but not sure about a few things. 1) How many days will it take? I have heard about 250 to 300 miles per day is a safe...
