Charging backup batteries with GZ solar chargers

My Schumacher battery takes forever to charge and it tends to kill my starter battery if I'm not careful. I haven't upgraded my starter battery or alternator yet, so that probably doesn't help. I also don't have any kind of way to turn off the flow if the main battery gets too low outside of...

Charging backup batteries with GZ solar chargers

That's one of the things I was thinking about. The issue I can see with going with Goal Zero is the ecosystem. It's like buying an Apple product, once you get one, it makes sense to keep buying from them. But just getting a panel, controller and some batteries and doing it myself would mean I...

Charging backup batteries with GZ solar chargers

I'm waiting to get into the solar generation game, but I'm not ready to jump in both feet. I currently have a backup battery/jump starter/all kinds of nonsense that I use as a secondary battery, but am getting tired of having to run the car to charge it. I'm debating on buying into the GZ...

    Camp lantern

Yeah, that would be great! I'm debating on buying into the GZ ecosystem, this might be a good start.

    Camp lantern

Reviving an old thread, have you had a chance to use the GZ light yet? I'm curious about it, but that price seems awfully high to me.

    Doing dishes during winter

Lol, right? I'm looking into a skottle too, removes a bit of cleaning, but gotta deal with critters who are interested in the smell.

    Pelican Case Alternatives

Amazon sells Plano boxes here: https://www.amazon.com/Plano/b/ref=w_bl_hsx_s_sp_web_2598616011?ie=UTF8&node=2598616011&field-lbr_brands_browse-bin=Plano I even managed to find some Plano ammo crates on Walmarts website.

If you had to start over, what different rig would you start with?

I love my Forester, but it's difficult to maintain it's on road drive-ability while making it better off-road. If I were to start over, I'd get a cheaper daily driver sedan and a cheap-o overlanding only machine that I wouldn't mind cutting into.

    Where to go this winter?

There's all kinds of cool places in Stanislaus National Forest. It's roughly 3 hours from the bay and usually around the same weather (depending on where you go).

What part of northern Cali are you from?

Just moved to the bay area a few months ago, enjoying the area so far!

    Tips On Packing For Overlanding

I dig this, I just got a plano box for all our normal gear, I might try to convert one onto a camp kitchen.

    Coffee Set Ups

We do a couple things, if we're especially lazy, we use kuju coffee, which is great if all you want to do is boil some water. It's all a self contained pour-over type thing so open it up, place it over your cup, then pour your hot water into it until you have coffee Otherwise, I bring my...

    Doing dishes during winter

We usually do hot water, but it's still pretty brutal. I might look into cleaning gloves, that's a good idea I hadn't thought of.

    Doing dishes during winter

My wife and I recently camped at Crater Lake. It ended up hitting the mid 20s and I realized how awful doing dishes in freezing weather was. From then on, we started food prepping like backpackers. We dehydrated everything we could and only had our bowls and spork to clean when out camping...
