Back on the road we go.
There's a few of these forks that have no signs whatsoever to point you in the right way. I relied on GaiaGPS loaded with a track I found from another overlander who was in this area recently.
Much of the trail looks like this:
This spot in particular got a little...
The only sign in the area warning against camping and loitering.
What remains of the furnace. Quick rundown of the process of mining mercury. Cinnabar ore (mercury sulfide) is crushed and roasted in rotating kilns, this vaporizes the mercury which is then channeled into condensers before...
After a short break for snacks, we load back up and take Panoche Road east.
Not much to say about Panoche Road which turns into New Idria Road after about 40 miles. It's a two-lane road for much of the way, the asphalt looks like it was laid down 60 years ago and has only been getting patch...

I've been wanting to explore down this way for a while so I finally picked a weekend, grabbed a few friends and off we went. Here's a few pictures and some dash cam footage of our trip.
According to Google Maps, it is 100-something...
I've been watching this guy who's camping for like 8 weeks in Canada somewhere. He's got a pretty cool setup.

No it's not surplus stuff. Pretty much the same brands you can get from any sporting goods website or store albeit with a usually small (like 10-15% discount) for the above personnel. Occasionally though they'll do events/sales that can yield some pretty good discounts.
Just a heads-up for you folks with GovX access. They're having a "Wilderness Sale" until 4/25 if you need to pick up miscellaneous camp gear (bags, pads, knives, etc.). Nothing really stuck out too much at me but YMMV.

Another vote for Gaia here. Wasn't too sure about it at first playing around with it at home but I now have a couple of trips under my belt running Gaia and it works great!

Well I'm proud to report that we had 16 rigs show up to the last San Jose meet on 3/16 at The Plant. There may have been more but I stopped counting at 16. Anyways, I think there's clearly enough participants and interest to warrant our own thread.
The...
