I've also been thinking about pulling the rear bench seat out of my 2017 ram. My old f150 was a regular cab but with the mini rear doors and I loved having the 12 or so inches behind the seats.
I've got the kodiac truck bed tent but imagine their ground tents are similar. I have been liking their work. The canvas breathes and the sewing is solid.
The truck tent has had zero issues with 10-20 Mph coastal wind or a sudden spring time hail storm. I also adapted a 5x8 utility trailer for it.
If your air suspension got damaged, can the truck still operate or are you stuck? I've heard they won't go anywhere if the air suspension is damaged but don't know if that's true.
We prefer setting up the tent based on the trailer so that the truck is light for day trips, grocery runs, etc. but...
I'm not concerned about people attacking, it's feral pigs and javelina. I know two people that had to be taken to the ER, I was charged when I was little and climbed a fence to get away, my mom's been chased twice in the last few years, my dad and I beat back a pack of javelina at lake corpus...
Without dedicated jack points, high lifts are more of a liability than an asset in my experience...unless you plan on doing fence work on a farm. Lol
As for the winch, receiver hitch on each end with proper power cables to reach the rear hitch will probably be the ticket for what you want. I...
I go with as common as possible, factory sized BFG AT so if I have a blowout or rip, I can go to any tire shop for a replacement. I've never seen a tire shop that didn't have a set of 265/70-17 load range E BFGs. Ironically, I've only had tires get damaged in big cities.
I'm not following how you'd use a block with a rope, sounds like a bad idea. I've only used my block for indirect pulling of small stuff like bogged utility trailers, logs, etc. with my 3500 pound hitch mounted utility winch.
Boards are handy. I carry a 2x12 wooden board with aluminum ramp...
Last time I was in Matagorda, I followed a trail from a set of highway terrains properly aired down and driven by someone that knew what they were doing. That beach often has deep fluffy sand that is easy to get stuck in. For that, here's my ranking:
-Pressure
-Tread will help you either get...
I stopped going into caves after encountering enough big black scorpions, monster black and orange centipedes, swarms of spiders, very angry mammals and snakes, etc. Got a reminder this summer when I had to fish out my brand new Motorola 2-way radio from this hole. I was testing the range in...
After seeing a bunch of people lose their gear to a surging tide on the coast, no ground tents for me. Got a canvas truck tent that is awesome, but kinda locks down the vehicle when in use. Sometimes that isn't a problem, sometimes it is. So we modified a 5x8 utility trailer to fit the truck...
Got back from a 1300 mile road trip the other day.
Part of the trip was 2 days on matagorda where we did close to 60 miles on the sand. Stock silent armor tires worn down below 1/4 did ok. Put new KO2s tires on yesterday.
I've used the plastic egg container before but the little plastic tabs cracked the store bought eggs. I don't pay more for pigeon eggs so it could have been that the eggs were too large. The last trip I put half a dozen into the foam egg store container then put that in a plastic container with...
This is a good reminder that there are lots of people with more money than sense. You have to keep your head on a swivel because physics doesn't care about fault or intent. This also applies to where you set up camp.
I've almost been hit before on the beach in the day time which is bad because...
