My folks went to Pactola lake and absolutely loved it. If i remember right it’s not too far from Rapid City and also Deadwood, but it is a reservation spot. The pictures I saw from their trip were amazing. It would definitely be worth a look while you’re in the area

Not as far as I can tell. It’s managed like a national forest so you should be good to go. Maybe call down to a northern Colorado ranger station just to be sure? Or perhaps a Colorado member can speak to that.
