I’m not opposed to holding until January, partly for COVID-19 reasons, partly for holiday busyness, and partly because I know Mike needs time to make his 35 different types of Christmas cookies.
I'll be giving ya'll comms and will sit in my truck with the heater. How's that for social distancing?
Haha. I kid, I kid.
Err, not sure why I didn't get emails on updates here. Anyway, I updated the event description to reflect our change in location. I also spoke with Corner Bakery and while...
Likely too last minute but I realized I didn’t throw an invite out here. Doing a big bear day trip tomorrow if anyone is interested. All pretty tame trails. Just scenic.
Up to Big Bear: (3N14): Apple Valley > Fawnskin
In Big Bear: Holcomb Valley Road (3N16) > Polique Rd to Doble
Exiting Big...
Err, not able to make it tonight. I’ve got a 10 day trip on Saturday and am still shopping... taking longer than I thought. Zion in UT, Moab, then Breckenridge CO and Ophir’s pass in CO. Should be fun! Hope to catch everyone next month.
Howdy ya'll. I wanted to let you know, meeting is scheduled for Thursday evening 6-8pm. There was a glitch in the rally point system which kept showing it on Saturday but after a bit of troubleshooting I have resolved it. I wanted to make sure there's no confusion.
Oh, I didn't see it as "checking out gear" – I thought if we all talked on GMRS radios we could social distance even better in the big grass lawn!
:tearsofjoy::tongueclosed::tongueout::tonguewink:
See ya'll tonight -
Thank you @MMc for hoisting the flag!
Looking forward to joining this time around at Lone Hill 6pm.
( @socal66 thanks for pointing out the rally point discrepancy BTW, I've manually updated it - it seems to be a bug, one part of the event says "recurring on every Thursday" ... but then it...
Thanks @MMc - yes, I'm looking at an overnighter in Big Bear this Saturday - Sunday, largely doing some exploring over in Holcomb Valley and on Skyline (relatively tame). To get ahead of trail traffic, I lean towards leaving at 5am. I'm usually much more certain on my planning and would give a...
By the way, I started a collaborative overlanding/camping wish list on Amazon here with @Big Blue – Amazon Sign-In - you should be able to subscribe and add products that either you have and enjoy (reference order history) or that you want to get. (If the link doesn't work when you read this...
Thanks @Toywolf! So I can better my planning game (and I acknowledge my flex/uncertainty of the dates I proposed), is 1 month generally a good "heads up"? In my mind, this could be a recon trip for future trips too since Big Bear is relatively local and has a lot to explore. PS. Enjoy your trip...
Hey @BKD Dave , I was tentatively looking at July 25th or 26th. I was thinking we head up early to beat trail traffic (early as in, leave around 5am), explore a trail – pause and eat and hang. Then explore another trail and possibly pause and/or eat and hang again with a different view. Maybe...
Hey @DrewKD! Welcome. We have an assortment of rigs. I have a stock 4Runner. It’s possible we might split up if we have enough folk to hit different types of terrain. We’ll set expectations beforehand either way so you know what to expect.
@Toywolf Yeah, I imagine next month we'll be good! I like the idea of bringing chairs and sitting outside somewhere.
@RoyD@626 Great to hear family is good, will shoot you a private message. @MMc proudly held up the Overland Bound flag for a few meetings earlier this year pre-COVID-19. I like...
After researching the rise in cases in Los Angeles, I'm leaning towards skipping this month. I'd say by next month we'll have more certainty on this COVID-19 situation and have a better sense of data... perhaps.
If anyone in here has thoughts on meeting, or if anyone still wants to meet –...
@Freedom Runner Congrats on the 2020 4Runner!
@Toywolf I'm thinking something is possible this month given re-opening. If anything, we might eat in the parking lot somewhere and social distance 6ft (I know we have a few here that are either immunocompromised and/or live with someone who is)...
Hey all, hope this message finds you all in good health. I wanted to briefly share an update with my Zoom call with @lr4xfar.24209 this past Thursday. He's rolling in a Land Rover he's had for about 8 months and is new to the group. He's got a handful of mods - lift, winch, skid plates and a few...

I'm thinking we'll push back this group meeting one more month. If anyone was up for meeting on Zoom this Thursday evening, we could meet between 7pm and ~8pm – I can host and private message out links and facilitate a conversation of favorite trails, trips, gear, etc, otherwise I suspect we'll...
I'm thinking we'll do a Zoom another day pending lockdown. I realize meeting behind a computer screen is less than ideal. I may need to re-create this event, it seems there's an issue with comments which makes this comment thread a bit difficult to find. (It's not showing from the main page...
