For the most part, your question is hard to answer since this year is the first year for new management of Overland Expo, so it's hard to say what their policies are.
But, I do know that they are very responsive to email questions. I emailed info@overlandexpo.com with a question on camping...
Southern Arizona folks!!
We're planning on running up friday evening and camping at 35.027209, -111.443119. Then heading into OXW early the next morning. We're undecided as to if we're camping at the OXW for Saturday night, or going back to that lat/long to camp again. All are welcome to join...
Tips for technical wheeling out west:
Horsepower and wheel spin is not your friend like it is in the slippery east. Crawl rocks with only enough throttle to create or maintain momentum as needed. Use that low transfer and let the gears do the work.
Have a kinetic recovery strap and shackles...
I don't begrudge them having nothing more than a profit motive, it's a product after all, but that product has to be the message of, "Come one, come all, come see what an awesome thing this is and how anyone, on any budget can do this!" Kinda hard to do when you want $300 to camp in the trees...
Prices are up. By a lot. $300 for one vehicle and two people to camp at OXW this year. Not gonna happen. We will be very much off site and purchasing probably only one day pass.
And the new owners' current policy for a veterans discount is just plain offensive.
Is this thread still alive?
I have tracks. Dragon Lady and I did the CDT on motorbikes two years ago and it's 99% doable in the truck. There will have to be two or three minor adjustments in Montana where the truck can't go. Gimme till after Christmas to dig them up. In fact, if I haven't...
Funny you should mention disk golf and land nav in the same paragraph. I often use a disk golf course near my house to play around with map and compass from time to time. Night land nav has always been my personal favorite and that course is perfect.
Very good idea @Fozzy325 I've been kicking...
I'm very happy to see awareness of trauma control and M.A.R.C.H. make the mainstream and everyone on board with proper emergency med kits. We have to know how to use these things! Having a tourniquet is not as good as you think if you don't know how or when to apply it. Several packs of gauze...
We just ran this for the first time two weeks ago. For anyone on the fence about this run, DO IT! Also, with four days on tap, you have time to run the whole way down the Mojave River to Manix, don't bail out at Afton. Camp at Triangles offered some amazing views at sunset and sunrise, that the...
Please allow myself to introduce....myself...??
My wife--famously known as the Dragon Lady--and I have been travelling the back roads and trails of the western deserts and mountains for about 10 years now. While I'm not new to overlanding, I am indeed new here.
We've got a fair bit of...
