Here is the first of several parts of our month-long trip this summer. I have no idea how many parts it will be to get us from Phoenix, to the Canadian border, and back again. Lets find out.
It was such an excellent trip, y'll need to break out of the house and do it.
Ok, the first of I don't know how many parts is done. Have a look. This is the run up from Phoenix to the Canadian border. The real goodies will be starting on the next part as we get rolling off road, headed south.
Waaaay way up at the north end of Death Valley is another valley....that flows down into Death Valley. We go every Memorial Day with friends and it's always amazing to explore the mountains and deserts around there, or head on into Death Valley and see the sights.
Check it out. This most recent...
Not in Wyoming that I can recall. The only real trouble from the GPSKevin route is in lower Montana and upper Idaho. Montana has a bit of trail that is so steep, it is very unlikely a truck can climb it, and in Idaho there is a section that is OHV only. Easy re-routes on both.
I was thinking we were going to have to miss the 4 Silos gathering since we're heading up the hill for a short outing this weekend, but we're on that side of town, so maybe we'll swing in, have some coffee, say hi to our prodigal son, and *then* get up the hill. Win win for everyone, eh? ;)
Here in Phoenix, there are trillions of 5th Gen 4Runners. They're like one of those biblical pestilences you read about all the time. I occasionally get a comment at a gas station of parking lot. Mostly, I see people just stare. What I get a *lot* of, is encountering other 5th Gens on the...
I've finally cut through my queue of videos and have started on our CDT trip. I don't know how many parts it will break out into, at least five, possibly more. The first will be out in a couple weeks...hopefully less. I'm a slow video editor. I'll post a link here as I get them published.
Not everything you need to know about synthetic winch lines, but everything I could think of at the time. Actually, it's just a simple how-to/why-to for cleaning and properly spooling/tensioning the line to be ready for your next recovery.
I have another coming in a bit, where I learn to splice...
Doh!
Well then they should post a corresponding sign on the north end. Also they should tell the Continental Divide mountain bike race that they need to re-route as well. We were travelling north to south--for the second time in three years--and saw no such warning.
Looking at the map...
Yep. I know the area. It's a case of private ranch with public road access through it. General rule on ranch land is leave gates how you found them, unless there is a sign stating how they would like the gate to remain. If it's not a public road, you'll almost always find a sign informing to...
Generally the border is pretty safe. Knowledge is power and the county sheriffs and Border Patrol are very generous with intel. In southern New Mexico, contact the sheriff's office of any county you enter and ask about known smuggling routes and areas to avoid. Once you're within 50 miles of...
Motorcycle guys have been running this trail for years and years. You can find tracks and resources by the gigabyte over at ADVRider.com
Dragon Lady and I did this on bikes two years ago using tracks linked from there, and all but one quarter-mile section was doable by truck. In fact that...
