First a 1/4 wave CB antenna is 102” a 1/2 wave GMRS antenna is apx 14”. So the CB antenna won’t work for GMRS (or vice versa).
GMRS, Amateur Radio, and CB all use the same coax, so nothing special needed there. You could get a NMO antenna mount to run several different antennas from one...
FCC stopped sending mail for licenses in July of 2022 (or there abouts)
@MOAK, if you have a call sign you are good to transmit. And as others have said, you probably won’t get into any trouble over the weekend…. As long as you have your call sign. I wouldn’t stress over it to much since...
He’s not wanting AM/FM radio via satellite… he wants a Navigation System built into the head unit that doesn’t rely on cell towers. Sirus/XM sat radio is not a nav system.
Joying makes an android based head unit that has an external SAT GPS Antenna. However I don’t know if it’s AM or not.

I too don’t do any programming without PC interface. There is a new Bluetooth Dongle you can add to the Baofeng Radios and program with an app from your smart device. I have not tried it yet, it the reviews look promising.

I need to do some research on this, because it is part certified for GMRS, BUT it still has a VFO (GMRS radios have to be channelized and can’t transmit out of frequency for the given Chanel), the UV5G can transmit on the VHF frequencies with or without the use of chirp. However, I did find it...
The thread title is “Baofeng GMRS Radio” Baofeng only makes one FCC compliment GMRS radio, the UV9G. Even though the rest are able to transmit and receive GMRS, they aren’t actually type certified for GMRS use, and their RF emissions are outside the allotted emissions for GMRS use. So yes this...
Take the extra coax and run it tightly around a 3” diameter PVC pipe, this will act as a choke and help mitigate your RF noise you are hearing. Look up “Ugly 1:1 RF Choke”.
Another idea I just had, make sure your extra coax isn’t laying near any electrical wires or components as the braid...
My mention of Family was general and not specifically aimed at you… While the UV5R is popular, a lot of people don’t realize Baofeng makes several radios… the worst of such is the ever popular UV5R series.
I have. UV9G on order to test… I’m pretty sure it’s going to go with the rest of my...
The UV9G is not in the same family as the UV5R. The UV5R is a 3 watt radio (advertised at 5 but actual power output is closer to 3 on high power) the UV9R is 7 watts advertised as 8 watts.
once you mess with the programming it is no longer certified for GMRS use. That is if you program to TX...
