Dates all depend on when our daughter's graduation is. And how far we fancy driving in one day. Last time we came up to the highlands it took us 10 hours to get to Lockerbie, well Bruce's Cave campsite, we just had to stop somewhere. These days 250 to 300 miles a day is enough for us.
The Adventure Overland Show at Stratford-upon Avon should be in the calendar for all. I thinks it's usually the 3rd weekend in Sept.
We are planning a 3 or 4 week tour of the Highland and Islands this summer so we will be passing Lockerbie. Date not certain as of yet.
Yes we are allowed knives, axes and the like as long as you have good reason to carry them in your vehicle. So for camping, fishing, work then yes. To carry them on your person to go to thee pub or shopping, that's a big NO.
As for firearms, shotgun certificates must be obtained from the...
All of the above except for;
Ham radio
scanner
firearms (however much I'd like to have a Ruger Mark4 they are not allowed in the UK).
I'd would add however;
toilet paper
jack and wheel wrench
folding saw
spare bulbs
duck tape
hi-vis tabard
dog whistle
Sorry please don't get me wrong, my comment wasn't meant as a criticism, it was about what works for me. Last summer we did a 3000 mile trip around the Alps, Germany, Austria, Italy , Switzerland and France. I realise 3000 miles may not seem a lot to you guys who live in such a vast and...
There are a lot of very low mpg's here chaps, when I convert my figures to US gallons I get 37mpg. I can't help thinking traveling light and slowing the speed down to 60 mph is the right move for me and my fuel bills.
1999 2.5l TD5 Defender driven at 60 mph I average 27 mpg in winter and 33 mpg in the summer (uk gallons). Temperature seems a bigger factor than the load I carry on the road for mpg.
Many thanks, it's a 1999 Td5 Defender 110. We did 3000 miles visiting the Ardennes Forest and Bastogne in Belgium, Luxembourg, the Black Forest and Lake Constance Germany, the Austrian Tyrol near Innsbruck, across into the Italian Tyrol via the Timmelsjoch pass, crossing over to the Swiss Alps...
We didn't get a warthog with our safari bow tent. The older you get the less appealing climbing the ladder is especially if you have to get up a couple of times in the night. and then there is the climbing around on the roof to set-up and pack away.
Thank you. For me there is something about cars with round headlights and their door hinges on the outside of the body, oh and the aerodynamics of a cinder block, perhaps I'm just old school.
Hi there. I joined a week or so ago and have just got my act together to introduce myself. I live in Somerset, in the south west of England. My rig is a 1998 Land Rover Defender 110, TD5. Modifications, well apart from a raised air intake, some side windows (it was a 3 door van) and a higher...
