I'm kind of getting an idea about how to do this. We could set up two groups, dividing up the more experienced people and spacing out the newer people in between the experienced. If the two groups enter the trail at, say, a half hour apart, we likely wouldn't get in each other's way, and...
Note that where we are meeting up that morning is a place that sells the permit. So, the intent is that we gas up, do our purchase, and meet up all at the same time.
Here's my concern.
The point of this trip was to encourage relatively newbies to come out and get their feet wet (perhaps literally). I'm much more comfortable with there being a high ratio of experienced to inexperienced wheelers in that kind of circumstance, and I want to do everything I can...
Boy, you're asking a tough question.
I've lived in MD and VA my entire life. Spring weather is very odd. For example (we're getting into the spring pattern now), three days ago it was in the mid-70s. Two days ago, it rained so hard you couldn't see five feet in front of your car with the wipers...
Just noting that I've cleaned up some stuff on the Rally Point, including changing it from a Meetup to a Trip, adjusting the nominal rig limit, and changing the times and location to match our conversation in this thread.
Some benefits to going on this trip: note that there is a badge, I...
One other thing: everyone should be completely prepared to leave absolutely nothing along the trail and to take found trash out of the trail. We'll be a net plus to the area!
Although I had originally suggested 10 because I had hoped we'd be getting a good number of newer guys and I thought that was the right number. One of my fellow admins bumped that up to 15 which you will see if you look at the RSVP thing.
Two slots still open at that number, so hop in quickly...
One other thing, if you would be so kind, can you DM me your experience level (beginner, intermediate, advanced) because I\'ll come up with a rough list of the order we\'ll wheel in. Obviously we want experienced people in front and in the tailgunner slot, and I\'d like to divide up relatively...
I've been giving timing a lot of thought. It seems to me that because we have people coming in from great distances and because this is not an eight hour trail, by any means, that I think we should do our meet-up at 1000 on April 13.
Given that we all need to purchase the permits to be on the...
I'm not particularly concerned. Anybody who signed up will be welcomed.
Details will keep coming here. Amazing to think, I believe we're one month out tomorrow. I'll be posting then with more recommended ideas about meet-up, etc.
I'm going to try like heck to do Friday night; it all depends on work. Will advise.
I was going to say I'll let you know so we can find each other at the camp, but we are likely going to be the two brightest KLs within 50 miles or more!
Not to go OT in my own thread, but orange, did you see...
That is safe to assume. I tried to pick a spot that, despite our not having agreed on details yet, would be a good guess and put everybody at least in the right neighborhood to do advance planning.
I was leaning towards recommending south to north, simply because of the sun. Last time I did it (don't remember time of the year) but it was relatively annoying. I figure south to north would remove that problem.
Definitely leaning towards the Big Apple.
Great idea on the Cafe! Maybe a...
Yeah, I'm going to firm it up soon. I do want to meet in the middle of town, and I want to do that at the location of one of the places that sell the permit we will all need to buy. Seems to me if everybody has to do it, we may as well meet there, then drive to the trailhead.
As always, other...
