    OB Approved Basic Vehicle Recovery

New winch users should Google "Winch Duty Cycle". Most winch makers do not have a listed duty cycle, a few high end models do and it's around 5% at rated load.

    Covid-19 awareness

There is conflicting information if you can catch this more than one time. Here in the USA Dr's are saying you should be immune for a year or possible for life. I hope this bug burns out in the next few months. Hand sanitizer in the truck along with N95 masks, I plan on more time off road...

    2016 GMC Canyon trail build

The OEM front two skids get the job done, the t-case skid is little more than sheet metal. Another item is the 589Fab skid support bracket. Several cases of the OEM bending and contacting the steering rack. https://589fab.com/collections/armor/products/skid-plate-support-bracket The trails I...

What tire size are you running?

After seeing what other owners have issues with on ZR2's and Z71's I have settled for 33's on my ZR. Front CV's are maybe the weakest link, can be upgraded if you want to spend the $$$$. AEV should be releasing the 35" wheel well kit soon, it sure is tempting. 35's on a second gen looks great.

Can you use soft shackles with any rear hitch receiver?

Your shackle hitch is not the weakest point, in most rigs the receiver hitch that is bolted to the trucks frame is the weakest point when you look at the WLL. We all know the WLL is will below the failure point, normally 5X the WLL.

Can you use soft shackles with any rear hitch receiver?

You may want to research that some more, some 2" hitches are rated at 6k lbs. The 2" hitches on mid size toyo's and gm's are 8K lb rated.

    Winch *AND* Snatch Strap?

I snatch strap is great for yanking someone when stuck and only need to be moved a short distance, quick and easy. Winch for a more technical recovery, more labor intensive. A 20'X3/4" rope doesn't take up much room.

Can you use soft shackles with any rear hitch receiver?

These 2" hitches are rated between 6 and 8K, they will work in most cases as long as you keep the weight limits in mind. You could use a bow shackle to attach your strap the that hitch. You could radius the hole in the Smittybilt receiver attachment for a softshackle. Some use the hitch pin...
