Wanted to start a thread for all the BC people. Show your rigs, talk about mods and upgrades. Where youve found the best deals on parts and gear. A thread to find help, tips and talk about rigs for the BC overland community.
My short box 350 has a 7.3 in it. Its my tugger for hauling. My 5.8 is the crew truck. I oike them both for what they do. Its nice having the small block in the crew truck because i can pull out and easily pass vehicals. But its better on gas than the 460s. Gives it more range.
Had the 350 on the rack getting new Trail Grapplers mounted yesterday. Turned out they would fit on, but wouldnt clear the front bumper when i turned. So while i was there and they were mounting the rubber. They let me strip the front bumper off. So i got the rubber on and made it home with my...
So im in BC and my go to has always been Backroad Map Books. They started in the early 90s producing map books and have been the standby around here for a long time. So i gave them a call to see if they had digital maps. They do but only micro sd for garmin gps. While i do love garmin. I dont...
Well borrowed a jeep to go pick up my new project on friday. Spent Saturday morning in my bone yard picking through wrecks. Then the rest of the weekend i was wrenching. Pulled the hubs, greased them and replaced one. Then replaced a bad break line and bled the breaks. Greased all the Ujoints...
Ive always wanted to do some overlanding in Australia. I havent had a vacation in four years. Ive looked in to shipping my rig there and its doable. And ive looked in to renting rigs there. None of the rentals were particularly inspiring, and basically all stock half tons. But i know im capable...
Im leaning towards a samsung Tab 10 and Back Road Map Books mini sd for British Columbia. Anyone running a Tab 10? I like the idea of a larger screen so i can see it easily while driving. All the GPS units ive looked at have really small screens. Is there a GPS unit with an 8 or 10 inch screen...
I grew up on a 70’ schooner so navigation was just part of life from a young age. I can navigate oceans and continents with map, chart and compass. Using mainly long and lat for marine navigation and UTM grids for overlanding. I constantly have my nose buried in an BRMB.
As much as i love the...
Ten years as a structural and wildland firefighter have left me with PTSD, anxiety and depression. But, its totally manageable without drugs. Anxiety is tough. It requires constant vigilance. Its easy to get lost in the "what ifs" of life. So you have to know how to pull your mind back to the...
@JimBill whoops. I meant to tag @mootruck98 in that comment instead. Yeah, good observation is a key skill for anyone on the trail. Know what your rig should look, smell and sound like.
I always pack some pans, a shovel, a pick and a hammer. Ive paid for a few tanks of gas now with nuggets and chunks of jade ive stumbled across. Anyone else around here like poking around creeks for free money? Living in British Columbia theres a lot of opportunity to find a bit of gold and...
@JimBill i really cant stress enough, how important it is to do your own wrenching on your vehical. Just because you left a shop. Doesnt mean the job is done. Often even when things are torqued to spec. They need to be retightened sometimes more than once until they seat and hold, Especially...
