    Jeep Jk 2dr

285/70/17 wont fit under a stock JKU without hitting the control arms and rubbing the inner fenders at full turn, flexed or on the street, even if you run 1.5" spacers, it will still rub the inner fenders and bottom leading edge of the fenders. The biggest you can run without changing anything...

    Modular Propane Tank Mounts

I picked htis up for several items i mounted. Roof rack gutter clamps, door hinge steps, electronics mounts, etc. This has a sticky back which is helpful when mounting on vertical surfaces.

    GPS bluetooth receiver for IPad

A quick note about using older tabs for maps, specifically GAIA. I ran my Samsung Tab 3 with GAIA only. Disabled all other apps except Google Maps. My internal GPS did not function well. GAIA was slow to respond and locate me regularly. I had tested it before leaving on a long trip but...

    Overlanding with dogs

Just came back from 1700 miles of which about 500 was offroad. Dispersed camped 5 nights. Max is 175lbs and get essentially all of the back (with seats folded down) except a 25q cooler and a medium food bin. Dry food in a resealable container. Precooked boneless chicken thighs/legs...

    Jeep Jk 2dr

I disagree. With 200kg of weight, adding a lift will give you your height back you will lose with a lot of gear and or people. My JKU with me (305lbs) my dog (175lbs), my wife (135lbs) roof rack, heavy bumpers, skid plates, heavy rock sliders, 35" tires on AEV Saltas, AM tire carrier, plus all...

    Colorado in October?

Last week there was a northerly wind that pushed the smoke out of the west Gunnison Valley area for one night. Filled back up the next day. Smoke was omnipresent from Ouray to Montrose to Nucla to Gateway to Moab.

    Overlanding with a Honda Ridgeline

Saw a new Ridgeline in Moab last weekend. Bed rack, RTT, lifted, KO2's, KC's on front and ditch lights. I am not fan of the aesthetics of the design nor the lack of interior seat width, but the one I saw there was headed in a pretty good direction.

So are skid plates and underbody protection pretty much a necessity?

It all depends on the terrain you frequent to determine their importance. When I go to my cabin, in New Mexico, Ouray/Silverton. Moab... skids become an important tool. All those areas I go off grid often have rocks 4-18" in diameter. My JKU has these skids as peace of mind when I travel...

    Colorado in October?

Another fire started at Purgatory Ski area between Durango and Silverton just yesterday. Sounds like they may have a handle on it though. I was just in Silverton/Telluride/Ouray/Montrose/Moab. Everywhere was pretty busy. Moab more than San Juans though. You can't go wrong heading to...

    Wrangler Unlimited Roof Rack

Garvin is a close 2nd in height and function. Rhio and Pioneer racks without the additional side railings are pretty low profile too.

US Rocky Mountain MOAB in October

Just returned form Moab and let me tell you, what a huge disappointment it was from one factor - construction coming from the north into town. On Sunday, it was packed. 1hr 45mins to get from roughly 1 mile north of 128/191 junction to the Days Inn in town. Not a single police officer in sight...

    Colorado in October?

You may want to keep p with this. RMNP has closed about 20-25% of the park trail systems and dispersed camping due to the Cameron fire. We were keeping up with the happenings all around Colorado when we there last week. We were south in the San Juan Mountains, but closures are happening...

Lubbock, Silverton, Nucla, Gateway, Moab 9 days of awesome

What an awesome 9 days of nothing but me and my dog. I learned some great things to apply for suture trips, especially off grid and more importantly, I had an amazing time. Left Sept 28 from Lubbock and stayed in Rio Rancho, NM. Just north of ALBQ, it made it easier for my dog Maximus to cope...

    Where do you work.

I miss everything about Seattle, except the people and the politics. Hydroelectric engineering is pretty amazing there. Some terrific engineering and building designs can be found everywhere. I stare at a wall, from home, in the middle of the high plains. It aint pretty. it aint fun. I'm not...

    JK/JKU Rotopax hinge mount

Only OEM unless you modified the mounting brackets. They mimic the OEM plastic covers and wrap around the entire OEM hinge. I was going to cut the sides off each mounting bracket but built a DIY plate for the spare tire which accommodates to 3.5G cans.
