Depending on how long you will be gone using a fridge and a battery pack like a Yeti is a good alternative. When I travel, I have the fridge plugged into the Yeti and the Yeti into the cigarette lighter. I have an insulated cover for my fridge and even in the summer heat of Arizona it doesn't...
I don't have the links handy but there are videos showing how to plan trips on GoogleEarth and then convert them to a format you can load onto your Garmin. I've done it a few times and it works pretty well.
I ordered some from Canada about 6 years ago. I think because I am in Arizona they mailed me some. They won't do it anymore. Last year I found three MFC at Goodwill. They needed new gaskets but other than that they work fine.
Keep looking you might find some.
I guess this is another reason that I like my Garmin GPS that mounts to my windshield. I press on the icon of my vehicle and it automatically saves my location. I can either let it name it with the coordinates or give it a name with the keyboard that shows up on the screen.
A few years ago I ordered red Scepter cans from Canada. I think because I live in Arizona they shipped them to me even though other people said they weren't able to get them. They no longer ship anywhere in the States. :(
I did find three cans at the thrift store last year though. I paid...
I still have LEDs in all my other locations except for turn signals. Maybe I'll try again with a more expensive set of bulbs and see if they last longer.
Becareful with those Amazon LED bulbs. I bought a set for my Landcrusier and they burned out within a year. I ordered another set and they started burning out so I pulled them out and replaced them with Halogen bulbs. It's too bad because they were nice and bright.
I was listening but I didn't have the channel programmed into my radio so I couldn't talk. I've been using APRS for some time and would like to participate in a net about it.
I have a 97 Landcruiser. 97 is the first year, I think for OBD II so it doesn't have as many features as it does now...
I have something like Disk Commander on my droid and I load the apk on the external sd card and then through Disk Commander (or what ever it's called) I click on the program and it asks if I want to install it.
That's one of the reasons I got my Kenwood TM-D710GA. I showed how to follow my route on aprs.fi so when I'm out people can see where I am. And when I get to my campsite or if something goes wrong being able to send a quick message is nice.
I also have a Icom ID-51 that I recently figured...
I have the APRSdroid app.
I also use smsgte.org to send message although you can use APRSdroid.
I can send messages to any cellphone altough you are limited to the number of characters. That's why smsgte is nice. You can create aliases to use instead of entering the phone number. It's a...
My radio in the car has built in GPS and one band is set up exclusively for APRS. I've practiced sending texts with it. It's time consuming but seems to work alright.
I used an old Android phone with a cable that connects from the headphone jack to the inputs on a Baofeng radio for a mobile unit.
I was a gas stove guy but the last time I went camping I brought my Coleman propane stove like yours and it worked great. I think I'm a convert. At least for domestic travels.
For the last few months I've been drinking cold brew coffee exclusively. It makes drinking coffee while traveling very easy. I bring a jar of concentrate, a measuring cup, and a kettle for boiling water. In the mornings, I but the water on to boil, add two ounce of concentrate to the...
