I considered it. I use a 66I Inreach when I hike hunt. A Overlander in my Jeep. I did not like downloading maps layers etc. Also, I like the option to link my Garmin in I reach.
.
That said I do use Gaia to load routes and plan my trips. Scout and load routs.
It comes down to personal...
Depending on if you want a communications device as well. If you do I would look at the Garmin 700I series. I use a Garmin 66I with an Overlander. I love my setup, but the 700I was not available. I came from using a Garmin 650 Montero. If given the choice again I would have chosen the 700I...
Welcome aboard. You will find a wealth of information on the site. Also, people are very informative about both building your rig and what they use to explore.
There is a good thread on this in the GPS section. I have used mine in both California and now in South Dakota. That combined with a In-Reach Mini or any In-Reach devise is incredible. I use my Overlander and a 66I. You may want to look at the 700I as well. Depending on your needs.
My first trailer was a M-416 Military trailer. I built it up for camping and 4 wheeling here was my first 5 considerations
1. Tent. With all of the options research choose what is best for you. Roof Top tents were not an option when I started, now they are.
2. Water storage of some kind...
Your message has good timing. I was out on the trail yesterday: nothing wild, just some mild Overlanding scouting. I was thinking, what would I add. I am enjoying the semi-stock rig. My other Jeep is a lifted and locked JKU. It serves its purpose, but I enjoy the Gladiator and honestly, it meets...
My bet is a update with InReach built-in. And minimal features. Look at the difference in the Montana series. 600 series vrs 700I series, also Their alpha dog collars. Only difference is In Reach built-in.
It is all about a reoccurring revenue stream with InReach.
Thanks. I am planning my route out. My wife and son are heading out in advance. I am following a few days later. I plan to take my time and camp along the way and explore a few trails. I have 4-5 days of time to explore before I get home. If all works well I am going to try to hit the Bad...
I am originally from San Jose, moved to Arnold 20 years ago. I am moving to Chamberlain in September. Very similar reasons as you did. Between the forest closing down, the crowds, and the politics surrounding the outdoor activities I enjoy it is time to move. Not to mention the income tax...
I am moving to SD in September from a town in the Sierras in California. I would love to see pictures of your trip and the trails. I am used to Overlanding in Sierras and in Nevada. I am looking forward to exploring the Rockies and specifically the Badlands.
