Makes sense man. I had a feeling that was your direction, it sounds like you’ve got your needs pretty well thought out which is really the most important thing.
Surely I'm not alone in this, but our trips are something we budget and save for months in advance. A short 1 or 2 nighter to a state park is easy, we can normally wiggle that into our monthly budget, its really just $50 in gas and some food, plus a state park fee or two.
The bigger trips mean...
I'd go truck vault, and skip the topper completely for a bed rack setup instead. Thing I miss most about a truck is the truck bed. The most annoying thing about a truck bed is lack of protection for anything strapped down in the bed. At some point in the very distant future, I will be going...
Granted, our RTT isn’t an extended version. I don’t know if we could fit an extended annex in this manner.
But I’ve found it’s just about getting up on top of the RTT once it’s folded, and folding the annex neatly around the ladder. I think it’s just something you have to try.
We keep our annex permanently attached to our CVT mt Shasta. I added an extra gutter on the bottom of the tent, so the annex can stay attached while the cover is also attached.
It’s not hard to fold up around the ladder, and setup is easy. We use it to store totes during the day, and for...
Yep totally agree. I’m sure there are people out there who think that when they see me driving around, but that’s fine. I would actually much prefer to keep my rack empty when I’m not out somewhere, but if I did that I’d be looking at half a day just to get everything loaded up, just to go...
Not a truck, but I've got a roof rack, so same thing basically. We purchased the RTT planning on removing and reinstalling for each trip, and that happened once. Its just a pain. And I like being ready to go so we can just put some food in our totes, throw them in the car, and hit the road...
I feel you on the Jeep. I read about jeep owners just "doing a mild 2" lift and throwing on 35's, and it makes me jealous. There is no "throwing on" 35's on a 4runner or tacoma. The simple trail and offroad capability of a jeep does really intrigue me. I've just come to the conclusion that...
As a former truck guy who went from a F250 to a Tacoma, to a 4Runner...
Don’t go to a 4runner. I love mine. It’s great. But owning it has confirmed for me that I’m a truck guy and I prefer a truck. It sounds like that’s your preference as well, so hopefully that’s some confirmation for you...
I'm going to say its probably NOT a good idea to lift your Tucson. If there aren't lift options out there, that means you're going to be one of a few. Lifting a vehicle changes a LOT of variables in the suspension geometry and handling. I'm a huge proponent of suspension upgrades, but not...
Everything you said about your wheels is how I feel about mine. Not spending the money to do aftermarket wheels, but my wheels don't look amazing. I'm figuring a spray job will be just fine and look a little better. I like your use of the hammered rustoleum paint too. I might go with the...
I’d swap them out now. You could probably net more than enough from selling those tires and rims together, to get some 17” stock takeoffs and new tires. Rims are way easier to sell if they have decent rubber on them, and yours seem to.
Sounds like we're approaching this a little differently. No, I don't think you're inherently wrong because you disagree with me. Also, yes, Jason is the guy in the video. He's got a youtube channel, he posts lots of videos. Honestly, on a personal level I am bothered and annoyed by many of...
Literally 75% of this thread is people being elitist and acting "holier than thou" because of differences in opinion about equipment, social media, and terms like "overlanding", which ultimately is semantics.
The big point of Jason's video is one of acceptance, he's offering a bunch of...
4runnner lifts aren't the most simple. There are a lot of rabbit trails, I'm going to try to summarize the basics, and link some good resources for further reading.
Some good resources:
4th gen specific (not your sons gen, but these 2 gens share a lot in common, and these threads have a lot...
I've always been an "enthusiast" for whatever vehicle I owned and drove. And I've always used forums for my research. I totally get your concern. That said, this forum is not like any other forum I've been involved in. The people here are friendly, and deal with each other as actual people...
Having had a 2nd gen taco, and a 4th gen 4runner, if I were going to go back and choose any rig, I'd choose a Tundra instead.
1) My taco was amazing. Capable, nimble, good offroad, and reliable. Had no issues with it whatsoever, it was supposed to be my forever truck. Got rid of it because...
Hey everybody! Our fam is traveling from Texas, where we live, to Alabama for Thanksgiving. We're planning on capitalizing on the roadtrip time, to hopefully do some exploring. Tentative plan:
Camping somewhere in East Texas or Louisiana Tuesday night on the way to AL, drive the rest of the...
Totally dude. No desire to argue! Just offering “friendly discourse”. Sorry if I came across confrontational! It sounds like you and I are saying the exact same thing, and even if we weren’t, that would be fine too.
Also, props for another ccw! I carry almost 24/7. Always good to be prepared.
