    Cash or Card

I dont think rural has everything to do with it although it is probably more prevalent in rural areas.. Some places simply just dont take credit cards. There are plenty of the "bodega" type gas stations around Tampa here that dont take cards. One of my favorite sandwich shops in Colorado...

Your telling me you dont use travelers checks!? :sunglasses:

    Oddball overlanding rigs!

Not sure where you are looking but there are tons of aftermarket parts for ramchargers including countless lift kits, bumpers, and performance engine upgrades. If Lone Wolf McQuade aka Chuck Norris can modify one in the 80s I think it can be done today.

    Cash or Card

I got into a habit of not carrying cash while travelling. I am currently on vacation in the Southern USA and was hit by a skimming device at a questionable gas station while pumping gas and my account was compromised. Its always safe to have a little cash on hand just in case. It is also...

    Samsung tablet for Gaia ?

Both the wifi and cell carrier versions of the 10.5 Tab A feature GPS and Glonass capabilities according to the specs but doesnt say what type of sensor it has. Unless you need cellular capabilities I would go with the wifi model as it is significantly cheaper. The only difference is that...

Interest in a OB canoe trip in Florida

I am located near this area in Citrus county. I am only here visiting family for a few more weeks but the trip sounds like a great idea. The tale of the wild monkeys is in fact true. Back in the early 90s a hurricane knocked the fence down at the silver springs attraction and the monkeys...

First camping trip with the GX

Super nice looking setup. I have plans to build a very similar trailer this summer.

Options when an electric winch is not possible

If your hand winch broke or wouldn't pull the car then it wast rated for this type of recovery. A hi lift takes forever to winch more than a couple inches and must be reset every 5 minutes and is a lot more dangerous. A properly rated hand winch will always out perform a hi lift jack when...

    Samsung tablet for Gaia ?

I have Gaia and Torque Pro running on a cheap Android 10.1 inch xgody tablet / phablet combined with an OBD2 bluetooth transmitter and have run into zero issues at all. This is a cheap $100 ebay tablet and does not seem to run slow or have trouble running any apps. I also have google earth, an...

Options when an electric winch is not possible

You are better off with a manual "come a long" type hand pulled winch than attempting to winch with a jack. Have you ever been stuck by yourself and had to use a hi lift as a winch!? It is no fun at all. I am a veteran pushing 6'1" and 240lbs and it is not an easy task. Yes it is possible to...

What piece of gear made the biggest improvement to your experience?

Tires were the most noticeable difference in my trail rides. Bigger tires made for more clearance on the trails and the mud terrains vs the all weather tires tread I had are night and day.

    Seat Swap

If you have a welder and minor fabricating skills almost any seat can be swapped in with some limitations. The hard part is getting the sliders and such to work correctly on oem style seats without adding aftermarket or custom sliders. I like the Corbeau "racing" style seats with harness's but...

    Cutting down road noise....

Ive read about fender well and other undercoatings being used to dampen sound. Even bed liner type products have been used but I have limited experience with it other than slapping it on my bumpers for its normal intended uses. This stuff also looks promising.

    Hello From Western Colorado!

Thank you! I was actually looking at purchasing land down in that area as well as a few other locations for a base camp and future cabin site. I would love to talk more about the area if you want to shoot me a message when you have time!

    Hello From Western Colorado!

Exactly. I was born in Florida and seen many of skunk apes in the swamps when hunting. More of a mountain variety tho haha :fearscream:

    Roof top tents and dogs.

I think what you need is some k9 training classes not a ramp! :grinning: My parents got me a German short-haired pointer for christmas years ago and I wouldnt imagine trying to put her in a rooftop tent! Shes a wild one.

    Hello From Western Colorado!

Just a short little video from early last spring. BrokenClavicle and I did a super early trip up towards Crystal Mill and Lead King basin near Marble Colorado. We didnt make it too far because of the snow but it was a fun trip.

Tires - Road Comfort vs Trail Performance

I put mud terrains on my daily driver and very aggressive ones at that. Achilles Desert Hawk XMT's. Just like everyone said my truck sounds and feels like a helicopter taking off at any kind of speed above 55 mph. I drive 100 miles daily for work and it does slow me down a little but I drive...

    Roof top tents and dogs.

Smittybuilt and other companies offer the "annex" or room that goes under the tent. Put a dog bed in the annex room. Never was a fan of sleeping with dogs in the first place and I dont think I could justify spending $300 extra so my dog had his own tent.

    Recovery Bag Recommendations

No reason to get fancy on a bag. It serves no purpose other than looking pretty. Ive got mine in a plastic tote from walmart and it works just fine. Those deadman anchors are great in sand but youll never dig a hole in the rockies to attempt to bury one. That nice and pretty $150 arb bag looks...
